GameStop on Forced Bundles - "It's convenient for customers."
When it comes to nostalgia items, like the NES Classic and Super NES Classic, GameStop created bundles that included items from ThinkGeek, a geek culture company owned by GameStop. "We put some items in the bundle from ThinkGeek.Com, retro items that would appeal to those buyers," Bright says.
The five bundles for the SNES Classic, for instance, included things like a copy of a book abut the NES Classic games, a wireless controller, a Megaman toy and the like. The bundling also inflated the price of the $79.99 device anywhere from $120 to $190 for the biggest bundle.
Bright pushed back on the idea that the bundling of those hard-to-find items was anything but customer service.
"Customers have the opportunity to come into our stores and choose the accessories that they would like to bundle with their hardware, or buy online the pre determined bundles we have put together to help make the shopping experience more convenient," he says, when asked if bundling was a way to force people to buy items they don't necessarily want. "Customers also have the option of coming to into our GameStop stores to purchase non-bundled product."
Fuck off GameStop, the only thing you're doing it because you can't sell your crap. Why do I want to buy a bundle that comes with 2 shitty bluetooth controllers when the SNES already comes with 2 controllers.
"We make money on bundling accessories", you mean.
Anything that makes customers spend more money on things that are not the thing they purchased or something instrumental to its use should never be labeled as a "convenience" for customers.
And, how nice. "Come to GameStop in person where we can try and sell you on any shit we can, or make it easy on yourself and just agree to pay a shitton more up-front online."
While hard-to-find items are almost always available to purchase on GameStop for some period of time, some of them end up in forced bundles as well. These bundles might pair an item with an accessory or a collectible with other collectibles. Bright calls it customer service.
Pathetic customer service at that.
And those rare items are always in bundles with some useless garbage.
Just admit it, Gamestop likes gouging as much money as they can when it comes to items high in demand.

Like hell it is. It's same fucking Tetris lamp everytime.
How is getting shit you didn't want convenient for anyone except you, Gamestop?
What a joke of a company, they don't even operate here and I still hate their guts.
Just get a raspberry Pi instead. At this point it's just easier. Don't waste your money folks.
Makes sense for them to do this. They make no money on console sales, all their money comes from games and accessories. They cant make anything off of a console that doesnt have games or accessories.
Gotta pack in some cheap garbage to make a cent off that console.
They're stupid, for sure.
But please, God, do not sell SNES Classics with fidget spinners or other stupid "trendy cool kid toys" as a bundle.
The bundles are a good idea to deal with scalpers, but the problem is most of the items bundled with the systems suck.
I wouldn't mind paying extra for an SNES and some items if the items that come with it are actually good.
Shitty company. I eagerly await them to go out of business. I bought the Switch from them a few months ago for around 600 dollars, and it never arrived. When I asked for a refund, they said they can only refund it with a gift card that can only be used at gamestop. After weeks of battling on the phone with them, they finally said they would send a check in the mail. Then the check came a month later. Fuck them.
ThinkGeek (aka GameStop #2) has pricier & worse bundle than gamestop.com. So I manage to see one bundle that just came with the SNES Classic and a 'Playing with Super Power' book, for a $100. Okay I'll bite, that's not bad compare to $280 for a fucking Mega Man helmet and Proto Man blaster.
I'm in complete shock that their Switch bundles in gamestop.com isn't complete ass, it's just forcing you to buy a game like Breath of the Wild or Mario + Rabbids, from the last one I saw a couple of days ago.
Actually it's quite nice in the case of the Switch. I got a bundle with things I would probably have bought anyway, so ultimately I didn't overspend even compared to if I somehow found the Switch in-stock for MSRP and then bought the two games and case separately.

It's clearly shit that doesn't sell that they put in the bundles solely to clear inventory. If they actually respected you they'd make a bundle with extension cables or a Nintendo game, but no. The Switch bundles have been good with that at least.

On GameStop, the Switch bundles on ThinkGeek are yuck.

They dont do it to clear inventory. Video game consoles always sell at cost or below cost for stores. Retailers like gamestop make their money off of accessory sales. If theres no accessories to sell with it, why even carry the damn thing? Gamestop did that with the PSP that was all digital distribution for games. They never carried new PSPs in Australia because they wouldn't make money on them.
Gamestop is doing these bundles so they can actually turn a profit for once. Its shitty but thats the way it is.

I think he means clearing inventory on the random crap thrown in.
