Australia will create its own space agency in an attempt to cash in on a $420 billion aeronautical industry and create thousands of new jobs. Most developed nations have a space agency, including New Zealand, and there are concerns Australia may be not be capitalising on the growing industry. The Federal Government will detail the long-term plans at the 68th International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, where the Opposition will also reveal its own plan. Both opposition and government supporting a space agency looks like we're getting a space agency, that's pretty cool
put the first man on the bottom of the moon!
Now they can launch all their horrible, terrifying creatures into space.
I want job at cool new space agency.
Now they can launch all their horrible, terrifying creatures into space.
They will adapt.
Aussies..... Innnnnnn..... SPAAAAAAAAAAACCCEEEE
Hopefully Musk invests down under.
Well we do have a fuckload of empty desert to test just about anything rocket [sp]nuke[/sp] related. Just hope this doesn't turn out to be another money sink ala "everyone else has a good way of doing X so instead of just using X we want to make a new X ourselves that will cost a stupidly large amount more than just buying theirs" like the government seems to have a hard on for doing. I want this to be goood
Good on you, I hope it goes great!
Go for it, mates! Just be sure none of your nopes make it onto the ISS...
But its easy for you guys, all you gotta do is cut your gravity harnasses and you will fall into space [sp] but seriously, good luck lads[/sp]
Depends on where they put the launch site and the logistics of getting rockets there, but it could be fairly lucrative given that they're closer to the equator than where many other nations launch.
Depends on where they put the launch site and the logistics of getting rockets there, but it could be fairly lucrative given that they're closer to the equator than where many other nations launch.
We've got a launch facility in Woomera, SA.
There's gonna be kangaroos in space, kicking astronauts into the endless void.
If they have any sense they'll sign up with the ESA like Canada has. For every dollar sent to the ESA, a dollar has to be spent in the member country.
About time. Can't wait!
Now they can launch all their horrible, terrifying creatures into space.
The origin story of every single universe-wandering planet-devouring cosmic horror
Why make a space agency when you can just fall off the Earth by undoing your harness?
We've got a launch facility in Woomera, SA.
Interesting. That looks roughly the same distance or a bit longer distance than Florida to the equator, but even so that never stopped anyone from throwing up rockets. Still, a good thing to have more organizations working on space related technologies, and hopefully break the monopoly that some nations/companies have on launches. Though I guess it would be kind of cool if they built a spaceport in northern Queensland, but I don't know enough about Australia to know if that's a populated region that wouldn't want it, or some place that is really hard to get big pieces of equipment to.
Can we not give stuff to failing state south Australia, such a sham! Note to foreign facepunchers, when south Australia launched our fleet of submarine's, that had partial Woden hulls... And jow many years later we have one working. ( Out of 10 I Think)
From Down Under to Up Over.
"she's a bit fucked up here, over" says first Australian on Mars
Now they can launch all their horrible, terrifying creatures into space.
and have emus waiting for us in space!?
Chances are though they are going to use RTTN (Rocket to Near Earth Orbit) then use a fire extinguisher to push the final bit into orbit, so that we can get our space program running Sooner, Cheaper and More affordably ™ In all seriousness though, this is fucking awesome news!
I only hope great things come from this. We Aussies have came up with some world changing inventions.
Will we call them Austronauts?
Wonder what will your ground control call sign will be. [space craft call sign] this is Mad Lad do you copy over.
Does this mean we get to launch people into space now? It's about time we put some money into industries that don't involve pulling rocks out of the ground.
Will we call them Austronauts?
Australianauts , do we get to call the first ship "Dundee 01"? :v:
Several years later on ISS: "Oy, ya bloody cunts! Who took me ciggies?"
