New South Wales government to trial 'on-demand' shuttle buses between train stations and homes
A private rideshare-style service to move people between their doorstep and the train station will be trialled in Sydney and the Central Coast, the New South Wales Government has announced.
Locations for trial in NSW:
- Northern Beaches
- Sutherland Shire
- Manly
- Eastern Suburbs
- Wetherill Park
- Greystanes
- Central Coast
- Edmondson Park
- At Bankstown a station-to-hospital shuttle will be trialled
The idea for an on-demand shuttle bus, reported by the ABC in May, fits people's changing needs and expectations, Transport Minister Andrew Constance said.
"We've got on-demand movies, we've got on-demand food, well you can order an on-demand bus now," he said.
Mr Constance said the Government was trying to reduce congestion at commuter carparks.
"We're a Government that's built 6,000 car parks, but it's still not enough. Ultimately we're trying to use every means available to try to ease the pressure on our commuter car parks, on our roads," he said.
"If you've got eight people in a mini bus that's far more effective than having eight cars on the road."

Trips would cost between $2.60 and $5.00.
So basically, smaller, express buses. Sort of like what they do with the UNSW express bus from central. Pretty cool I guess.
They're trying something similar with public busses in Singapore... although it seems a lot more convoluted.

I'd love for an on demand bus to take me from the train station 10 minutes away from my house. Would happily pay $5 or something for that. Workouts cheaper when you do the math for train + bus + On demand bus
