Maserati will return to Formula 1 next year, taking over naming rights for the Haas team as early as next week. Sources insist Sergio Marchionne, who is CEO of both Ferrari and Maserati’s parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, will send the Modena brand back to the Formula 1 fray for the first time in nearly 60 years. The deal will give Haas, the sport’s only US team, its first major sponsor after two self-funded years in the sport, with Maserati paying a rumoured €20 million a season to paint its Trident badge on dark blue engine covers. Effectively, the deal pays Haas’s Ferrari V6 powertrain costs. Like Alfa Romeo’s sponsorship of perennial back marker Sauber, it effectively sees Maserati paying Ferrari €20 million a season, via Haas.
Read more at https://www.motoring.com.au/maserati-returns-to-formula-1-110113/ Of course this follows the return of Alfa Romeo as well.
Holy shit I'm excited for next year
So basically Ferrari has 6 cars now.
Hopefully not another year of MWL
yeah Maserati is just a ferrari nameplate in essence. Would be like merc, mclaren or any of the other F1 teams having cares under different brands that have the same powertrain...
