Seventy-five members of staff at a Cardiff hospital have been left "broken" by a court ruling that means they owe thousands of pounds in parking tickets, a campaigner has said.
On Friday, a judge at Cardiff Civil Justice Centre ruled private company Indigo could collect the charges from University Hospital of Wales staff.
The ruling means 75 people must pay £128 per outstanding ticket.
Sophie Round, a healthcare support worker, said she was "gutted".
"It's not really the outcome that we wanted and what we earn doesn't really cover the fines," she added.
Campaigner Sue Prior said: "It's horrendous. Some of them [staff] are broken. They're scared stiff, petrified, they feel sick. This affects everyone from cleaners to doctors."
She said staff had permits which allowed them to park in designated areas for £1.05 a day, but a lack of spaces meant staff had been forced to park in unauthorised areas.
Fucking disgusting. Hospital parking is a load of shit to begin with, but to extort people who work there over this? Fuck private collection firms and fuck the court for giving this the greenlight.
The court shouldn't have approved this, there's a similar problem going at Ormskirk and Southport but both the court and hospitals here are telling the firm no. Staff should be allowed to park anywhere that there is a space, they bloody work there. Another issue caused by making shit private, we never had this problem when the hospitals managed their own parking.
they still paid for parking too.
Why aren't they given those spaces for free, that's a bit bull.
Absolutely disgusting I don't know what they were smoking when they allowed this

Indigo said as a "gesture of goodwill" in April 2016 it cancelled all parking charge notices up to the end of March 2016 and reduced the charge to £10 if paid within 14 days.
A spokesman said Friday's court hearing related to three "persistent offenders" who had accumulated in excess of 100 tickets between them since April 2016.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said more than 98% of staff complied with parking regulations and it was "disappointing" some had "chosen to refuse to co-operate".
In 2015, it urged staff to pay any parking fines, saying they had been correctly issued and it did not intend to dispute them.
Some important snippets I think.
I was here a few months ago, this place really is a massive site/hospital. I'm curious as to why the hospital couldn't allocate more of the car park spaces to staff if this is a serious issue.
The parking company made £3 million last year alone from parking tickets for the hospital, private parking companies can really be terrible things tbh.
Private companies behind hospital parking are fucking scummy, the prices are ridiculous. I am glad to live near my workplace, because even a staff permit (which doesnt guarantee a place) is ridiculously pricey.

Hostipals should never be private, profit-driven companys, along with prisions or higher education.
There's a special place in hell reserved for car park management companies. I've fought off two tickets so far...
Makes me feel lucky that I am within walking distance of my local hospital (10 minutes). Rarely need to drive there besides the few occasions I have picked up family members from surgeries and appointments. The prices are moronic, they are more or less saying "Please pay to see your sick loved ones".
I must admit, this concept is completely alien to me. The more I hear, the more grateful I am my mum moved the family to Finland when I was young.

Private companies behind parking are scummy in general
