Sources: VgChartz To put this in perspective, the Wii U sold 13 million units worldwide during its five year life. The Switch is 9 months in.
Understandable. I love my Switch. I don't use it as much as when I bought it I suppose, but back when it came out me and 2 of my friends just sat down at my place and played Zelda for like 18 hours straight, passed out for a while, then woke up and played another 14 hours or so. And that was a single-player game. We just thought it was nice to sit in the same room and discuss secrets we found in the world individually, and help eachother out with puzzles and shit.
I'm recently one of them. Haven't bought a console in 10 years. Make an interesting, unique platform and release games that don't jerk customers around every chance they get (looking at essentially the entire AAA gaming industry right now) and people will get interested. Good job Nintendo.
Well deserved, the Switch is an incredible little piece of hardware.
The Switch definitely feels like it took the long rumored hybrid console concept, and really knocked it out of the park on the first try. There's definitely some tech limitations remaining from that choice (battery life is bad compared to past handhelds, heat is an issue for the system, internal storage remains far too small) but they really did manage to convince me that the tech is there for the concept.
Incredible in the space of ten years we've managed to take the computing power of an entire gaming system like the Xbox 360 and put it inside it's own self contained unit. Imagine what we'll have in the next ten years.

Add to that all the third party support, indie devs, and the promise of up to 4 more major franchise entries next year (Kirby, Yoshi, Pokemon, and Metroid) and they've got the software to back up the hardware which was one of the WiiU's major failings.
I want one SO BAD
Add to that all the third party support
Does Switch have much 3rd party support? Pretty much the only games I can think of that I want a Nintendo console are, as usual, made by Nintendo.

DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 are coming to it, Rocket League just got ported and a few others are making their way onto it too.

I want to get it but still worried it'll suffer from the usual Nintento content curse. I'd rather play (or already have played) all of the current 3rd party titles on PC and most current Top Switch Game Lists are swamped with Nintendo titles. I know the console is still kinda young, so there is time for this to change, but for the time being I'm waiting to see how the game selection ends up.
"2018 is going to be the year Nintendo goes bankrupt guys i swear!"
Wolfenstein came out this year
I updated my post didn't mean to include it in that list, meant to put Rocket League.
I've never felt so confident in a purchase, especially seeing that Zelda trailer back in January which pretty much convinced me to go out and pre-order it as soon as possible, and I've never pre-ordered a console before.
I hope the majority of 3rd party support isn't just year old+ remakes... I want to get it but still worried it'll suffer from the usual Nintento content curse.
-Ubisoft has Mario+Rabbids. I still do not like the Rabbids but I suggest picking it up. -EA has two shoddy ports of sports games, FIFA and WWE. They will continue to deny the existance of the console into the known future -Konami has Bomberman, which I've heard good things about. I've heard whispers of them wanting to do a new Castlevania but nothing concrete yet. -Capcom seems kind of lukewarm to the console, they ported Monster Hunter Double Cross but didn't localize it for the West. They seemed to backtrack recently though. -Square Enix said they are considering doing ports of older titles. Not sure what that means, if it's stuff like of the past 10 years or stuff from the SNES/PS1 era. And just about every indie dev under the sun is either trying to work on a port to the console or wants their game on the console. The ones I can name off the top of my head is Clever Endevour's Ultimate Chicken Horse and Red Hook's Darkest Dungeon.
God damnit....all I want is a sale Nintendo. Throw me a bone here! Ehh, I'll probably get it next year at the latest. Great to see its doing well though. A very nice contrast to the lackluster performance of the wii U.
I love my Switch. Lets me play Stardew Valley on the go as well as keep Mario and Zelda in the case to play if I want to. Pretty sweet little console.
-snip-
The fact that I now own a physical copy of Isacc and snipperclips justifies the existence of the Switch alone. The fact that it's a dope console is just the cherry on top
Good job Nintendo, after the failure of the Wii U. And with that I present you how not to announce a brand new console because this left so many people confused to what it was, including the question if it was something you can take with you out of the house (it shows a bar scene in the trailer and it even says "Take the Wii U anywhere!") and people also thought it was a peripheral to the Wii considering the name.
Woo hoo. I really need to pick up a switch. I've heard nothing but great things about.
I thought about buying one this Christmas. Granted my roomate has one, but I can't really take his out of the house. :v:

The trailer actually showcased everything the Wii U was capable off and didn't lie about anything. The actual reasons why the Wii U didn't sell: - Bad name (people confused it with the Wii, didn't know it was a successor) - Bad concept (you could play off-tv but not always, you could use the Pro Controller but not always, not even devs knew what they should do with the console) - Bad marketing (mostly targeted towards kids) - Bad design (very unattractive and looks like designed for children) The Switch doesn't have any of these issues.
Spare Switches? Spare Switches anyone?-WiiU buyer a year before the Switch announcement.
Bought one today, nice!
Woo hoo. I really need to pick up a switch. I've heard nothing but great things about.
My major hangup about it is that I don't think it does basic media stuff yet. I know it's a game console and stuff, and I would like to get one eventually because some of the games do look really good, but if it had things like a basic music player, a basic ebook reader, a basic movie player, and a basic web browser (it might have that), it would go from "Maybe I'll buy one in a few years when the prices drop," to "I would seriously consider buying one today." I'm not saying it's bad for not having those things but it has the form factor of a tablet. If it had those things it would be a really good game player as well as a decent little entertainment tablet and its value would skyrocket. Consoles don't necessarily need these things, but the PS3 being a Blu-Ray player on top of being a game console was a major factor in me deciding to get one when the prices came down. I'm still disappointed that the Wii didn't have a DVD player function (I understand that it's because Nintendo would need to license stuff and they decided not to include it to keep prices down, but in the Switch's case it could just implement FOSS technologies to play the stuff I mentioned.) My understanding is that it does Netflix and Youtube though, which is nice.

When Nintendo games came out for the Wii U they were damn good, but 3rd party take up was absolutely abysmal. The one redeeming factor is that at least you can play all Wii and Gamecube games without emulation when modded and with native HDMI upscaling. But I'm glad more devs are taking the Switch seriously.
