Detroit police officers fight each other in undercover op gone wrong
DETROIT (WJBK) - An internal investigation has been launched at the Detroit Police Department after two different precincts got into a turf war as they converged on an east side neighborhood.
Neighbors who live on Andover on Detroit's east side will be the first to tell you this area is known for constant drug activity.
Sources say it started when two special ops officers from the 12th Precinct were operating a "push off" on Andover near Seven Mile. That is when two undercover officers pretend to be dope dealers, waiting for eager customers to approach, and then arrest potential buyers and seize their vehicles.
But this time, instead of customers, special ops officers from the 11th Precinct showed up. Not realizing they were fellow officers, they ordered the other undercover officers to the ground.
FOX 2 is told the rest of the special ops team from the 12th Precinct showed up, and officers began raiding a house in the 19300 block of Andover. But instead of fighting crime, officers from both precincts began fighting with each other.
Sources say guns were drawn and punches were thrown while the homeowner stood and watched.
Honestly, I'd start looking around for cameras and waiting for Ashton Kutcher to show up.

Yeah fuck the addicts they're the real problem here.
Probably some bog standard thing for undercover cops that I just haven't heard of but fuck them for specifically targeting the addicts.
It's like out a typical action movie. :v:
This immediately made me think of Super Troopers.

They're just trying to target and fight crime the best way they can. It isn't like the police are responsible for rehabilitation efforts, they can only enforce legislation that is on the books. Drug users utilize criminal activities and means so they can obtain more drugs. So it makes sense to target them specially if there is a hot spot which shows certain activity (IE burglaries, muggings, etc) which are all tied to drug use.
There is usually a purpose because operations like this take time and money.

Targeting addiction by punishing the addicted is absolutely moronic. You don't just like "snap out" of being addicted to heroin, if the cops stole your car and you got arrested you would probably fall further down the ladder since we have nearly no support system for these people
This isn't going to going to do Detroit's reputation any favours that's for sure.

Unfortunately, that's how it is. Also cops seize your car because they have the power and the legal reason to do so. They don't just steal it.

He said that targeting addicts is moronic, that being "how it is" is even more idiotic. I've lived in Detroit all of my life, police are just looking for wins wherever they can find them, even if that means arresting addicts since buying drugs is against the law. It is a feel-good maneuver for police and a very poorly placed band-aid (at best) for many of our problems in the city.
A day will come when all gangs are undercover police and none of them will realize it.

They also seize the money in your wallet. Asset forfeiture? I'm sure it's the largest reason of why they do this.

I think it mostly just boils down to free shit.
You don't even have to necessarily be charged with a crime in order to have your assets "forfeited". Your assets just have to, in some way, be found to be associated with some manner of illegal activity. It is an incredibly broad definition.
Is this The Wire-tier stuff right here?

Killing the poor seems to be the default economic strategy of the US.
Reminds me of this:

It's sort of depressing how he's only moved after shooting another cop, saying that he thought he was a 'bad guy'.
Of course, the actual 'bad guy' pulled a gun; but I'm talking about how cops become desensitized to this in general.

Gotta fill up the for-profit prison systems somehow.:pudge:
