The body of the first black woman appointed to New York state's highest court was found floating in the Hudson River off Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
NYPD officers responded to a call of a person floating in the river near West 132nd Street and Henry Hudson Parkway just after 1:45 p.m., authorities said.
Abdus-Salaam was also the first Muslim woman to serve on the bench in the United States.
At this time the police have no reason to indicate foul play. Until an Autopsy is performed and confirms otherwise I'm gonna lean towards accidental.

What kind of "accident" could have happened? Do you think she just went for a bit of a morning swim in the Hudson?

The police have specifically stated that there is no evidence of foul play at this time

She fell in and drowned...?
What is there not to buy? Accidents can happen to progressive figures just as much as anyone else. Until there is evidence, there is no need to get conspiratorial.
I don't buy that for a second.

Im suspicious as well, but we must wait for the report before jumping to accusations.
The article stated there were no other obvious signs of harm, so it really may have been an accident
Lol, floating in the Hudson and it's totally an accident. You know that's like, the #1 method of corpse disposal in NY?
I'm suspicious myself since you know, people of don't just up and die for no reason.
However, anyone who's been near the Hudson will agree, it was probably the hudson that killed her.

How do you know this?
Jesus you'd think facepunch is full of veteran CSI analysts or some shit. Let's wait and see what the autopsy says.
I think people are underestimating how dangerous rivers can be, especially for someone that can barely swim and fell in, undertows are horrifying.
Taking the facts at face value is a pretty good first step.
But denying skepticism outright is a fucking step in the opposite direction.
You seriously can't blame people for being skeptical.

We are not, we're saying to assume at this point given the current circumstances would be extremely foolish.
OP shouldn't have said something like "leaning towards accidental" in the first place without any actual evidence presented.
Don't need a shit storm over something as sensitive as this.

"Accidents" happen all the time, man. Like that one suspect that "accidentally" shot himself in the back of the head while handcuffed in the back of a police car. You know, "accidents."
Joking aside, I don't doubt it could be accidental or intentional, but I do doubt the investigation is going to go much farther than it already has.
As if its a coincidence it just so happens to be the first black muslim female judge during a time when the Judiciary is fighting the good fight against the corruption, racism, bigotry and sexism that Trump and Co. represent. This is a message.
What could 'no indication of foul play' even mean at this stage? That they didn't find a knife in her chest or a note saying "John Murderman threatened to throw me in the Hudson yesterday"?
I think the autopsy is gonna be the thing worth talking about.
John Murderman is my favorite arch-villain.

Nobody is denying skepticism?

obvious signs of foul play include:
knife wounds
gunshot wounds
broken bones
bashed in skull
general wounding
ligature marks
bruising
you know, things that are generally left when murdering someone. unless someone poisoned her or pushed her in it would probably be easy to see what her cause of death were

she's an appeals court judge before she's a black muslim woman, they aren't going to drop this case
Either an accident, or she got pushed off.
Unless the place where the accident happened was crowded and there would have been witnesses.

Clean murders can be made to look like accidents. Not trying to push that idea, just reminding everyone just because no foul play is suspected doesn't mean there wasn't any

What's the reason for blindly speculating like this?
Unfortunately, people die randomly all the time. My buddy lost two close friends (healthy, early 30s, no major issues) under similar conditions and the best that can be said is that it wasn't foul play. It's tragic, especially considering who it happened to, but to automatically assume murder doesn't change anything. People slip, fall in the river, and drown all the time. The only reason we're hearing about this is because of how important she was.
It could be murder, sure, but it's probably not according to all released information at this time.

I interpret it as trying to simply acknowledge a possibility.
I assume by "no foul play" they mean "nobody killed her but suicide is still possible."
Because I'd say she probably did kill herself - it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Sad whether it's an accident or a suicide however.

I'm just going with what the local PD said and that is that there is no signs of foul play at this time.
There's a very clear difference between leaning on an opinion and flat out assumptions and I ain't assuming shit.

Isn't that river so horribly polluted that it's basically like Farcry 2 deadly Africanized water, but in real life?

Most rivers nearby cities are populated it's the fact of living in the city, In Melbourne the main river into the city is horribly polluted that a gentleman died after jumping into it.
