Yesterday, Bleeding reported on Marvel’s plan to get comic shop employees to wear Hydra shirts to promote Secret Empire. It’s part of Marvel’s overall “Hydra Takeover” marketing gimmick that has been as well-received on social media as, well, as Secret Empire itself. For some reason, one we can’t quite put our finger on, people are uncomfortable with this. Hmm. What could it be?
Anyway, the reaction was swift and overwhelmingly negative, with, out of literally hundreds of tweets just quoting our own tweet of the story, only one or two tweets supporting the idea.
In related news, Secret Empire #0 revealed that[sp]Nazis originally won WW2 in Marvel Comics Universe and Captain America was always a Hydra (who worked with Nazis at the time) agent. Allies had to rewrite reality with a McGuffin to win.[/sp]People don't seem to be all that happy about it.

In unrelated news, Captain America co-creator and comic book legend Jack Kirby would be 100 this year. :)
Soooo [sp]was Captain America always a Hydra Agent in the original universe and that the origin we saw was a fabrication of the Allies using a Macguffin?[/sp]
What the hell's going on with Marvel HQ? Who writes this shit? I get it, "comics are weird", but this is really far out there.
Im sure the two jewish men who created Steve Rogers specifically to punch Hitler in the mouth would be proud.
You know an alt universe where that spoiler happens would actually be fucking amazing
or like [sp]a clone of him[/sp]
like fuck idk it has the potential to be amazing I'm just saying, but I get the feeling they went about it really, really awfully
didn't they also make fucking magneto a hydra agent?
I don't like how they're hellbent on making Hydra so... omnipresent.
Sometimes it feels like someone's gun is going to shoot backwards into them because it was a Hydra agent all along.
Remember, Sam Wilson is the one true Captain America guys.
Boy i cant wait until Generations, which is going to be a series of books devoted to self-fellating by time travelling the current token replacements back to meet the originals so they can almost certainly be brainlessly praised and approved of.

Wasn't he like, a victim of the nazi's in one of the movies? was he in the comics?

DC did something like that with Superman (but he was still horrified by what Third Reich did when he wasn't around) and nobody complained because, hey, it's not the mainline universe.
Guess Marvel took that as a dare.
Wasn't he like, a victim of the nazi's in one of the movies? was he in the comics?
Yeah he's been an explicitly jewish holocaust survivor for decades.
I forget exactly when that was specified, i do know he swayed between jewish and roma for a bit. Regardless, he's a holocaust survivor, and has been for quite some time. (He's even encountered Red Skull and had arguments/attempted to murder him multiple times.)

Pretty sure in XMFC he was a holocaust survivor. Not sure about the comics.

Headed by a man already on his way out of this plane of existence and a weirdo ex-Mossad that's fucking retarded, a group of editors that either pledges alliegence to the second guy or are too busy arguing with fans on Twitter, and a group of writers that is a collection of has-beens, people who don't like the characters their writing, stretched too thin to make anything quality, or in one special case, is Brian Michael Bendis.

Him being a hydra agent is such stumbling stupidity that it's not even funny
like what the fuck ahahaha
Pretty sure in XMFC he was a holocaust survivor. Not sure about the comics.
Yep. In fact, when he finds about [sp]Red Skull, he tortures him and leaves him in solitary confinement in the middle of nowhere with only water to drink.[/sp]
Marvel Comics desperately tries to paint Hydra as totally not the Nazis.
Meanwhile in MCU (AoS spoilers)

He was a holocaust survivor in the first movie too.
I think it may have been in the mid 60s when it was hinted at or stated, actually. I know it wasnt originally detailed in his first appearances, but its been a thing for a long time now, definitely known by the 80s and 90s.

Ye I couldn't remember. Haven't seen the older ones in a minute. But yeah the entire opening scene of XMFC is like blatant Nazi Germany lol. I don't understand how these writers think this is even marginally okay.
Wasn't he like, a victim of the nazi's in one of the movies? was he in the comics?
pretty sure he has been a holocaust survivor in every single portrayal of his character
Pretty sure in XMFC he was a holocaust survivor. Not sure about the comics.
Magneto has literally always been a holocaust survivor.
always.
I cannot think of or find any continuity where Magsypoo is NOT a holocaust survivor. He's ALWAYS hated Nazis, and thus ALWAYS hated Hydra.
So any situation where "oooooohh its me magneto, loyal Hydra double agent since always"
is fucking stupid

It'd be one thing if it was an explicitly movie-exclusive detail, since CEO Ike "All black people look the same" "female superheroes cant sell movies" "Harasses neighbors and then sues them over stolen DNA" "Kill your kids if they're gay" "Fuck the editorial who needs them LMAO" Perlmutter hates that Fox has the movie rights, which is why they pushed Inhumans so hard and the Fantastic Four no longer exist, but its been a detail in the comic for longer than Wolverines been liked and/or existed. And that detail has only gotten more prominent as the years have gone by.
Also they fucked up with Magneto last year too, i think a character who was something that was gay or something told him he didnt know about struggle or something along those lines.

this is a pretty good breakdown of what happened (or may/may not have happened) in the issue, and how "real" and "permanent" it is: http://io9.gizmodo.com/marvels-secret-empire-event-is-off-to-a-gutwrenching-c-1794497110

Oh my fucking god i blocked out how terrible that actually was.
Jesus Christ.
This sounded like a cool marketing gimmick, quality of the stories aside. Those store owners sound like massive fucking crybabies
Why is it that hydra is used so much
they're not even THAT good
like in agents of shield they've pretty much been a focus for... way too long now
Why is it that hydra is used so much

Because Marvel Entertainment is creatively bankrupt and has to steal from the movies for synergy.
Because Nazis are the ultimate bad guy I guess.
[editline]21st April 2017[/editline]
That being said I probably wouldn't wanna walk around a store that's decked out in the fantasy equivalent of a Nazi operation, fictional or otherwise lol. It just seems a little...... obtuse and inappropriate. Especially given the current political climate.
Like I wouldn't stop someone cosplaying as a Hydra agent or something, whatever. But I don't think a store should adapt a policy like that and have their entire staff take part in it if it makes them uncomfortable.
