For Chambers, a lifelong political activist, the sign and policy is a political statement outside a multi-use space which serves as a gym, community gathering spot and meeting place for activists in the metro area.

People like this, what do they expect a world with no police to be like? It's not all peace and dreams like they pretend it would be, it would be crime riddled and lots of people would be dead.

These kinds of people usually resent police officers because they represent a force that prevents them from arbitrarily inflicting harm on people they don't like.
I have an uncle like this so I have a line in on this mindset. [I]He[/I] believes if there were no cops, "people like him" would keep the peace. Incidentally, he once tried to become a police officer and was not accepted. I leave you to read between those particular lines.

While posting the sign is stupid, it would not be fair in the slightest if the police did not respond to calls. Police not responding to calls from people who do not like them or protesting against them is much much worse than what this guy is doing.

Except this is legally not true
He could murder someone in there and when the police come to get him they can't get in due to the sign. It makes perfect sense now.

I feel like if the sign were "Niggers need not apply", then your viewpoint would be different.
A business can deny service to people all they want, even if its just to people of a certain race, but that kind of stops at law enforcement, especially if they have a warrant. The guy can refuse police and military members gym memberships, but thats the most he can do.
The only reason this guys gym/community-center/hippy-commune hasn't crashed and burned is because anti-police and anti-authority in general is a surprisingly common viewpoint from the faaaaaaaaaaaaaar left.

you can actually sue a police department for this, which is why they can't do it to bars or restaurants where they suspect patrons will be drunk driving. I just learned this over the summer, but I have no reason for sharing other than it's an interesting little tidbit. you'd think cops could just infinitely stake places out, but I guess not

kind of curious to see if i can get a free membership for life since charging me fees would be capitalist exploitation and also racist because a white man is attempting to keep lower income individuals (typically minorities) from cultivating physical strength and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
