Credit-reporting company Equifax Inc. EFX 0.94% said Thursday that hackers gained access to some of its systems, potentially compromising the personal information of roughly 143 million U.S. consumers in one of the biggest and most threatening data breaches of recent years. The size of the hack is second only to the pair of attacks on Yahoo disclosed last year that potentially affected the information of as many as 1.5 billion customers. It also involves nearly twice the number affected by one of the highest-profile breaches at a financial firm, the cyberattack at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. about three years ago.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/equifax-reports-data-breach-possibly-impacting-143-million-u-s-consumers-1504819765 alt source: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-equifax-cyber/equifax-says-details-of-143-million-consumers-potentially-hacked-idUSKCN1BI2VK holy shit what a fuckup. Well, I got a date. Fucked status: Mostly Fucked
As part of its investigation of this application vulnerability, Equifax also identified unauthorized access to limited personal information for certain UK and Canadian residents. Equifax will work with UK and Canadian regulators to determine appropriate next steps.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck The Internet was a mistake. Computers were a mistake. Shut it down. It's been lovely shitposting with you, gents. If you meet me in the ruins of civilization, say "fucking incredible" and I'll buy you a beer if beer and money still exist.
This is fucking incredible. Because of government and large corporate fuck-ups my identity may potentially have been compromised twice in one decade. And not even by my own doing!
Apparently 3 senior executives dumped stock right before the news broke https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-07/three-equifax-executives-sold-stock-before-revealing-cyber-hack how stupid can you get

So what exactly does this all mean then? How does this affect the average person?
So what exactly does this all mean then? How does this affect the average person?
If your name, SSN, and driver's license number weren't leaked to the public in past breaches, there's a sizable chance they are now.
Holy fucking shit. 143 Million. Round-of-a-fucking-plause. How do you fuck up THAT badly?
For reference, in 2016 there were 249,485,228 adults in the United States. That's a little over half the adult population.
that's so much information that literally most of the US population is at long-term risk of identity theft. how could you fuck up this badly. holy shit.
that's so much information that literally most of the US population is at long-term risk of identity theft. how could you fuck up this badly. holy shit.
It's okay, SSN cards have built-in mathematical protections, photographs, and are easily replaceable like normal national ID cards!
Fuck yea kid, not affected
Well, if they didn't have my information before, they do now that I typed it in their website to check.

[editline]8th September 2017[/editline] And even more interesting, neither of those SSL certs or registrars matches the main equifax site, I'm not going to type up that list because I stole the original ones from reddit, but look for yourself. If credit is going to be a requirement for literally everything in life the least they could do is make it safe and secure. Jesus fuck. How is this not running as a top story 24/7 on every news network? Why aren't they explaining what steps should be taken now?
Something smells awfully phishy here.
The website stuff combined with the three shareholders dumping stocks, yeah incredibly fishy as well as phishy.
:) [editline]e[/editline] there's an apostrophe in my last name and their system rejected my use of the system til I removed it this shit has fucked up accounts on numerous services for me in the past, even got me lost in the school system for two weeks leaving me walking into a random class at the start of first grade and just kind of assimilating. There's a slim chance it may actually have protected my info from registering correctly for others
tbh I would've waited until more in depth investigation on the website happens because of the discrepancies I highlighted above.
in the very least, the secondary site is directly linked by their main, which would have been the biggest red flag if it wasn't. You only enter enough partial information that you'd already have to be much more fully compromised elsewhere just to cross-reference the only course of action that would make sense of that would be if they had a big databank of complete info to abuse, but only wanted to be ironic and target people who were most worried they'd have their info stolen, but then that puts them in a much brighter spotlight to get caught [editline]e[/editline] beyond that, the ceo has a video directly expressing that they put up a dedicated site, posted by equifax's account, with a link to this secondary site in the description. Unless the phishing goes all the way to the top, it's legit, or at least so deep rooted that he's being fooled as well

There's no possible way that'll stand up in court.
Loading Tweet... https://twitter.com/aantonop/status/906160174716534784
Yep, pretty much it seems. Since it was being directly promoted by equifax themselves, I highly doubt it's a phishing service. But signing up for the service waives your right to sue. I hope this company burns with the executives punished for insider trading.
There's no possible way that'll stand up in court.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T_Mobility_LLC_v._Concepcion it can. Anywho, I put a little warning in the OP.
The website stuff combined with the three shareholders dumping stocks, yeah incredibly fishy as well as phishy.
Fuck. I had my family check if their info was leaked yesterday.

F U C K

If my data is compromised then you can't prove it was me that signed the opt-out.
Private sector credit history was a mistake.
Any way to find out while not voiding your class action lawsuit eligibility?
Any way to find out while not voiding your class action lawsuit eligibility?
it's only voided if you register for the free identity protection they're offering to those affected, it doesn't do shit if you're just doing that little info checker.
Any way to find out while not voiding your class action lawsuit eligibility?
Assume that your datas have been compromised, take the neccessary measures, then proceed to lawsuit the shit out of them.
My shit's fucked. I guess that's why they put a deadline on signing up for the ID protection service.
