I could not be more excited :D Plot overview:
The show tells the tale of the epic and violent world of the mighty Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during medieval times. It follows the exploits of historical figure, Ragnar Lothbrok, and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s Viking crew and his family as he struggles to become ‘king’ of both Denmark and a large part of modern day Sweden. The show will tell tale the driven of young Viking warrior, Ragnar Lothbrok, who longs to explore civilizations across the waters. With the help of his jester friend Floki, they build a brand new generation of faster and sleeker ships. Earl Haraldson, a man of little vision, suspects Ragnar’s ambitions and goes head to head with him in a struggle for supremacy and glory.
The show's intro: Basic plot trailer thing (fuck if I know what to properly call it) Official Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/Vikings?group_id=0 Watch the first two episodes on Hulu right now - http://www.hulu.com/watch/462374 Main cast:
Travis Fimmel (The Beast, The Baytown Outlaws) as Ragnar, the first great Viking leader, a man of both history and myth. If you haven't read the Saxon Stories, by Bernard Cornwell I highly recommend that you do. Covers much of the same material and is a great work of historical fiction, with great characters, imagery, story and battle sequences. I saw some ads for this on The History Channel. It certainly looks interesting, but it could go either way.
They really wanted to film in Norway and asked for some money, but the people in charge of funding films and shows said no thanks :(
They really wanted to film in Norway and asked for some money, but the people in charge of funding films and shows said no thanks :(
I honestly wouldn't help them if they asked. The history channel has been really shitty when it comes to history.
Recently, anyway. However, the Hatfields & McCoys show wasn't all that bad. Not brilliant, but an okay watch.
I believe History is just playing the show, they aren't actually involved in the production.
lol Gustaf Skarsgård! I hope this is accurate, it looks like it could be good. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline] I hope there will be some mythological aspects too. (not hollywood style please)
Seems like a show that I could check out.
What's the song in the intro? Sounds pretty good. Nevermind, it's: If I had a Heart, by Fever Ray
just a refresher, premieres this sunday.
Only 9 episodes? :(
i hope that's only for the first season, provided it gets greenlit for a second season.
They probably have the plot set up for only 9 episodes, so it'll be difficult to continue most likely
time to play total war again
If the show is successful in its first season, then they will get a second season. Sure look at The Walking Dead, in its first season that only got six episodes then it was successful so it got a second season of 13 episodes
time to play total war again
nah, if you really want a viking game, play either rune, battle for asgard, or the kingdom of nords in m&b.
Or you could play this mod for Med 2 http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?867-The-Last-Kingdom
Skol
It begins... tonight. 10pm, so for you walking dead viewers (like muhself) it doesn't get in the way. Also, here's a sneak peek vid for those who want a taste of what's to come http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/videos/vikings-sneak--peek?m=5125180f7e3b1 Odin walking among a battlefield disguised as an old man, surrounded by crows.... where is that ejaculating gif when I need it? Ah, this will do for now. edit: From zombies to vikings..... fuck yeah, my Sunday nights just got a lot better.
That sneak peek was pretty good. They seem to be talking ~Norse. And there's mythological aspects too as I had hoped. Oden and Valkyrior.
Oh, and since this show chronicles Ragnar Lothbrok's early days, that makes this movie an unofficial sequel
I believe History is just playing the show, they aren't actually involved in the production.
Explains why it doesn't look like it sucks horribly.
I like it so far. Would be cool if History made more shows like this, maybe one with feudal China.
Loving the hairstyles. [editline]4th March 2013[/editline] Well, I'm sold on the show. Can't wait for the next episode.
ditto, i am ready for this. sunday now has a purpose after the walking dead ends. apparently we can watch the next episode starting tomorrow on the history channel's either website or app, hulu or another thing that i forget. sounds to me like you need the premium service for that shit, will find out tomorrow and respond back. also, katheryn winnick (place ejaculating .gif animation here)
Ragnar came off as a care-free kind of guy whose eyes look only toward the greater reward and none of the possible bad consequences of his actions. I couldn't tell if he fails to realize how things could go bad for him if he's caught or if he just doesn't give two fucks about them, really.
Before I check out this show, do they speak entirely in Nordic? I'm sold if so.
turns out they dont [editline]4th March 2013[/editline] also they didnt capture the social norms and behaviour of the vikings very good - this playful mentality of the characters doesn't fit in at all it's like watching modern american people dress up in viking outfits and pose with weapons still, im gonna continue watching and see how it turns out
I like it so far. Would be cool if History made more shows like this, maybe one with feudal China.
I would love this to infact got any good movies I should wacth/know about this
