On Super Bowl Sunday, the Schwandt household was like many others. They made food, enjoyed each other’s company and argued over who was going to win.
But there’s a big difference in Jay and Kateri Schwandt’s home compared to most: they have 13 kids. All of them are boys. The large Rockford family made national headlines a couple years ago.
“I would love to have a girl, but I just don’t think it’s in the cards,” Jay said.
There’s a small chance they may now get a girl. They’re expecting their 14th child, due in April. They’ve decided not to know until the baby is born whether it’s a boy or girl.
To some, having child no. 14 would be a huge deal, but to them, it is business as usual. The Schwandts say that logistically and financially, it won’t be much of a burden nor too major a change.
“If you have three, it’s the same as having 10 at this point, if you ask me,” Kateri said. “It’s just more chaos, more noise. It’s nothing we’re not used to at this point.”
So what will the future hold? Will there be more children?
“I’m thinking that this is it. It just feels like this is going to be it, and we’re going to enjoy every second of it,” Jay said.
But Kateri noted that she and her husband also said they would be done after no. 13. They added it’s hard to imagine a house without a baby in it.
For now, the couple is focused on bringing their 14th child into the world.
jesus christ that's too many kids. how do they afford 14 kids
He should reload he has a bad seed.... haha.
Well my mom was the youngest of 21, 18 girls and 3 boys. So this doesn't shock me much hahaha as for affording them, my mom was a migrant farmer with the rest of them. Here, he looks pretty well off with a flat screen in the background with a polo shirt on, so better than me at least! Buy in bulk, the rest takes care of itself. Literally, have the older ones take care of the young ones and youve got a self-reliant system.

catholics are wild man, my grandma on my mom's side is one of 23, her mom is one of 18, her mom is one of 22. grandma herself stopped at 6 when grandpa died of a heart attack in his 40s and my mom had to have a hysterectomy after kid 2 so thus far it's calmed down but I can guarantee I'd be one of 20 if my parents could still make new ones
basically what goes down is mom and dad do all the fucking they want and by the time you're at like kid 8 kid 1 is grown and out of the house and kid 2 takes care of kid 4 and 5, and the cycle continues
13 boys? Jesus Christ, forget about the father and his miniature soccer team, think about that poor mother. :v:
How the fuck they planning to put 14 kids through college
Oof, I don't know if it was right to go public with his hopes. If he gets another boy, he might grow up feeling like an inherent failure because he isn't what his father wanted...

not pictured: bootstraps being sewn on the children's shoes so they can pull themselves up by them
STOP FUCKING SHAGGING!

Ionno, if they're ultra-Christian or something, aren't there like special Christian colleges and stuff in the south that give heavy discounts to members of the faith? I had a classmate in India who went to study in such a university in Baton Rouge, I think.

same way you put one kid through college, lifelong unpayable debt.

there are some but they're not common and generally end up being about the same price as any other school after the discount is applied. it's more like a fine for not being Christian than a discount for being one

I'm catholic though and only 1 of 4??
One of my friend's parents seemed like they were doing this. They had like 5 boys and their last was a girl. Weird and surprisingly common thing apparently. At least it wasn't 14.
Sounds like a sitcom setting.
This guy's gonna be rolling in refundable tax credits in a year or two.
thats one hell of a case of plop till u drop
They could just adopt a girl or 8 of them. They're probably OK parents and all you have to do to be a good parent is not be a terrible one
Ok, I have three brothers and no sisters and I thought that was fucked up, this is something else.

People do know there is a finite number of people the planet can sustain right

nah fuck it, my own desires require no justification!

I can totally understand wanting a lot of kids but it shows a clear lack of care for the effects your actions have on others. Not least of all the fact they'll indoctrinate all of them into whatever random religion or worldview they hold...
definitely thought this was an onion or a hardtimes article
Hotdog down a Hallway.
more like hot dog in a aircraft hanger
I sincerely hope that all of these newly creates people will do ok in this weird reality of ours, good luck to all of you people and your horny ass parents.
It would be fairly amusing symbolism if most of them ended up working at LHC as scientists.
