The weeks-long standoff between HBO and a hacker intent on extracting money from the Time Warner-owned cable network intensified Sunday with the leak of several episodes of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” as well as other series.
The Larry David-fronted comedy series wasn’t scheduled to return to TV until October. But in a statement issued Sunday after the hacker’s dumping, the network did not indicate it would yield to pressure tactics.
i debated just throwing this in the film forum but the fact they've been leaked 2 fuckin months early is pretty news worthy imo, fucking hell. this is the same mess that resulted in that Game of Thrones episode leaking early as well iirc, but that was only like a few days early. There's been a lot more as well but I can't remember what else there was. They demanded $6+ million fyi:
Variety has obtained a copy of another message released Thursday by the anonymous hacker to select journalists in which HBO is apparently responding to the initial video letter that was sent informing the Time Warner-owned company of the massive data breach. The message from HBO, dated July 27, features the network’s offer to make a “bounty payment” of $250,000 as part of a program in which “white hat IT professionals” are rewarded for “bringing these types of things to our attention.”
...
The $250,000 sum is also well short of the “six months salary” request made in the video letter by the hacker, who claims to make $12 million to $15 million per year.
wat a mess
You have to wonder why these episodes were on internet connected servers in the first place and why they weren't encrypted.
Should probably note that none of these leaks are public, as reported by Bleeping Computer the hackers sent journalists MEGA links.

Many big companies don't actually care much for security as you'd think. From what I've heard HBO get hacked a lot
It will be a tragedy if the next unbelievable twist in the Curb Your Enthusiasm saga is spoiled because of this
Larry should do an episode about this.
