http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-04-19-sources-nintendo-to-launch-snes-mini-this-year
The SNES mini (or, to continue Nintendo's official branding, likely the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System) is currently scheduled to launch in time for Christmas this year. Development of the device is already under way, our sources have indicated. Nintendo's plans for SNES mini are also a major reason why last year's NES mini did not see a reprieve from discontinuation, Eurogamer understands, despite the latter's continued popularity and sell-out status. Last week, Nintendo explained that it never intended NES mini to be a permanent product. From the company's perspective, the microconsole was planned as a cool novelty item perfect for Christmas 2016, and the numbers in which it was manufactured and shipped were expected to be enough to suit this goal. But NES mini ended up breaking out to become more popular than anticipated and quickly sold out, leading to a bustling resale market on eBay. NES mini shipments continued into the early part of this year, but its production run could not be extended further - as SNES mini was slated for production instead.
Let the scalping begin!
After the NES Classic I'm glad I already own a SNES30 controller.
Can't wait for them to discontinue this in a few months and then start producing the N64 Mini
You'll have to be even more lucky to get one of these now that scalpers know how limited they'll be.
Cant wait to hear about this being impossible to attain
Can't wait for them to stop production after only releasing a handful of them. Smart business strategy right there.
Coming later this year and leaving about 2 weeks after
Can't wait to see the menagerie of "classics" that result from licensing.
Perhaps I'm just completely missing the point, but why do people want to buy these miniaturized versions of consoles you can easily get your hands on, that are limited to only the 30 or so games it comes with?
Managed to get the nes, might get this too, make like a nintendo stack
Hopefully this time they have the resources to sustain production.
:v:

Also i dont live in the states so getting all the things mentioned is harder (If we order something online for more than 40 dollars, we might get taxed hard in our asses)

I am not going to even care about getting this. I know for one I wont even be able to get it but if I did I already have an snes with a good amount games. I will admit that I would like to have it just for the HDMI output and stuff but its not worth the hassle or stress to get it. I also just don't want to get it cause I am pretty mad at how Nintendo is handling its productions. There is no reason why something like the NES Mini should have been discontinued. Even if they did have an issue with one chip. Spend the time to make a fix and continue making them.
Great business though. If they kept producing the NES Mini it would be a passing fad and they'd be left with a surplus and no demand. The SNES mini then wouldn't have the launch hype to drive them to sell out. This model allows them to produce a known quantity and know that it will completely sell out, and then move on.
i can't wait for the gameboy mini to come of age... wait theres a group already doing this.
I love that they're doing these. They don't have to make them at all and yet they are. "Limited production" / discontinuing production shortly after initial sales is 99% a marketing gimmick with a company as big as Nintendo but I still think these are sick.
lmao nintendo has more money than god, having something like the mini consoles be a limited novelty item is not only them not missing out on some supposed untapped profit but it's more or less advertising and brand boosting they can *sell* see the Disney Vault.
If it doesn't includes the Donkey Kong Country series, I'm not interested
I hope the SNES mini will include Earthbound.
This is gonna be a collectors thing isn't it, rather then just something you buy to revisit those good ol games
I think partly why they are so underproduced is because they still want to give reasons to buy the VC versions of those games on a new console like Switch.

Between finding a working power brick and a console where the plastic has not suffered bromide leech you will be hard pressed to find a base console for cheap, plus your options for games are either pay out the ass for original cartridges or blatently pirate and use a flashcart. The idea for the mini classics is great but the scalping totally fucks the marketing.
What if they cancelled the NES in order to get the scalpers thinking the SNES will be limited too, but really it's just a ruse for retarded day 1 sale numbers

I wonder if Nintendo is simply liquidating excess parts from Wii/Wii U production into NES/SNES minis? might make some sense why the NES mini used Wii-styled nunchuck connections to plug the controllers inside. they also trademarked the SNES controller in Europe a while ago. good luck hoping that any Super FX games comes to it, Argonaut Software made that a copyright battlefield, meaning that the only way of playing Yoshi's Island is to play the (questionably) inferior GBA version by 3DS (Ambassador) or Wii U's VC, it also extends to games like Star Fox and Stunt Racer FX. Wonder what 30 games they'll pack with it. wouldn't see Square Enix touching FF4/6 since that would mean they would lose traction for the inevitable (non-Eidos) releases for the Switch (using Android, and DS assets, in the case of 4) where they'd sell them full price digitally. could see Kirby Superstar, Dream Land 3, Mario World, Earthbound and the DKC trilogy, maybe F-Zero and Pilotwings? wonder what other companies like Capcom got when they released the NES mini. At the rate SNES/NES games came out on the Wii/Wii U...and eventually 3DS, i'd be surprised if they don't dripfeed releases for the Switch by the time Online officially comes out. even Sony has contingency plans for older content, you're still able to play your PSX games on consoles and PSP/Vita. Internally inside the 3DS's SNES emulator binaries, there's a bunch of games that has titles mentioned, but remain unreleased. I could see Panel de Pon and Dragon Quest 3 as JP-exclusives, replaced with Simcity and Tetris Attack outside of Japan. (they could potentially rename Tetris Attack as Yoshi's Puzzle League, if they wanted to. unless they're not able to replace graphics on the Emulator's side like games on the Wii/Wii U's are. like how they replace graphics in Ocarina of Time)
My roomates have one of those tiny nintendos they released earlier, did they stop making them or something?
Missed the NES Classic, I'll be DAMNED if I miss the SNES Classic. Especially if it's got super Mario world and DKC and the like.

They'll only make 100 and you'll have to fight and beat Reggie in a tiny room in the Mojave desert if you want one
