Post-Charlottesville "White Lives Matter" rally being organized in Texas; UPDATE: It got cancelled
As the nation watched tension between white nationalists and counter protestors turn violent Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, worries began to emerge that the discord would come to a Texas college town next.
Richard Spencer, an infamous white nationalist who brought major unrest to Texas A&M University once already, will be coming to College Station again, according to the man who brought him to the university the first time. This time, the event will take place on Sept. 11 at a "White Lives Matter Rally" hosted by Preston Wiginton, a Texan with deep ties to white nationalist movements.
At the top of a Saturday press release announcing the event, Wiginton declared “TODAY CHARLOTTESVILLE TOMORROW TEXAS A&M,” referencing the violence in Virginia.
The organizer of the counter protest said the event would be nonviolent, and was organized to “demonstrate that members of the Aggie community do not support the hateful bigotry espoused by Wiginton and the planned speakers.”
“White supremacists keep coming to our campus thinking we’re going to support them,” said Adam Key, a doctoral student at A&M and the organizer of the counter protest. “Just like the last time they showed up, we want to demonstrate as clearly as we can that their ideas are not welcome here.”
This is very bad.
Why do these troglodytes keep trying to pollute A&M
Why do these troglodytes keep trying to pollute A&M
I'd imagine on some level it's that they're rivals with UT Austin, a notoriously liberal campus in a notoriously liberal city; therefore A&M must be hyper-conservative.
It's wrong (for the most part), but it's enough to get the ball rolling on something like this.
Richard Spencer was arrested at Charlottesville how is he gonna make it to Texas

On a side note, I love that word. It has just the perfect sound to it.
The organizer of the counter protest said the event would be nonviolent
A rally hosted by a notorious racist, named after a racist phrase and held directly after a racist rally where the violence got so bad someone got killed will be nonviolent?
If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna shove this barbwire dildo up my ass. Don't worry, it won't bleed!
I hope they're met with a strong united crowd that will cause their crotch area to be damp in fear that their dreams of blood will never occur so long as good people still live on this earth. To see that dreams of separation and extermination based on superficial values will die and not reoccur so long as people live for life, love, and knowledge.

A&M is more conservative than most colleges but they do not condone these people. You don't have to get approved by the campus to use the outdoor space for demonstrations, however you need a professor sponsor to use indoor venues.(think that rule started after Spencer's last visit) A&M allowed Spencer to speak the last time around, arguing that he had the right to, but the University said his beliefs were abhorrent and organized an official counter-protest.

Here's an interesting article from the last time this guy came: http://www.thebatt.com/news/president-young-announces-richard-spencer-speech-counter-event-aggies-united/article_d1c87412-b68b-11e6-9917-83d18770a96c.html
It turns out the organizer is a former student, which is probably why they keep showing up.

Of course, I'm not arguing that they are this bastion of conservatism and hate, I'm saying that's potentially a belief of these white nationalists. And these rallies being held there aren't helping its public image.

Source?

nah he wasn't, he got in a spat with the police but he's walking free atm
My ex-boyfriend and his sister are going to this. Only thing I can say is that I really hope nobody gets hurt this time around.
White nationalists really need to fuck off.
This time, the event will take place on Sept. 11
Cute.
I sincerely hope there will be measures taken to avoid the same level of violence as last time. The last thing we need is more bloodshed fueled by an abhorrent ideology and its lowlife followers.

I think there won't be as much violence since it's been announced, while the last one kinda popped up. Counter protests can be more organized and a police presence will be much more robust
Fuck me i'm going to A&M soon for college.
Jesus i hope this doesn't get screwed up.

There were a few times shit went down on UT's campus last year where I had to make the call to stay in my dorm, and on one occasion it may have actually saved my life. You may need to make the same call next year; just remember that you have that option.
this train isn't going to just stop, is it?
Oh no. I just know this is going to get incredibly bad, isn't it?

Not the nationalist rally, the counter protest will be nonviolent.

I'm growing increasingly worried that white nationalism has festered long enough that we may soon pass the time for words and begin the time for action.
Texas A&M is a good college, these people need to stay away.
Dear Richard Spencer...
Fuck off...
Sincerely...everyone in the USA.
Why does a college let non-students to assemble and rally in their campuses? It isnt exactly a public park.
Actually, it is. A large amount of the outdoor areas at public universities like A&M are just that; public property. Unfortunately that means it's legal to have peaceful assembly at them; I doubt this will remain very peaceful however.
Oh. My god. Seriously? I hope my state gives em' the boot. I don't need yet another thing to be embarrassed or terrifed about in this back-asswards state. :/
There's enough very politically active young liberals around college station that I'm confident the hate will be drowned out, especially with this much time to organize counter-protests.

You don't need to be a liberal to detest Nazis. Conservatives are not sympathetic to white nationalism save for your far/alt-right loons. Everyone I've seen on facebook says this whole thing goes against the Universities values. Counter protests were organized, and I even seen a GoFundMe to fund a counter protest reach it's goal within a few hours. However, it seems like the University has cancelled the event with concerns for safety:
Texas A&M’s support of the First Amendment and the freedom of speech cannot be questioned. On December 6, 2016 the university and law enforcement allowed the same speaker the opportunity to share his views, taking all of the necessary precautions to ensure a peaceful event. However, in this case, circumstances and information relating to the event have changed and the risks of threat to life and safety compel us to cancel the event.
Finally, the thoughts and prayers of Aggies here on campus and around the world are with those individuals affected by the tragedy in Charlottesville.
Something to note: The event was planned for the Rudder Plaza. Rudder as in James Earl Rudder, who lead the battle of Pointe du Hoc during the invasion of Normandy, he was also a graduate of Texas A&M. After his service, he became President of the University. The University has its roots as a military college, and many of the former students lost their lives fighting fascism. Many people are saying that Aggies have beaten Nazis' in the past, and we'll do it again.
I'm gonna laugh if this turns out to be a thing where all of 5 people show up
