The software in question is configured to download complete files from a single suspect, to confirm that this person has the illegal content in his or her possession. To combat the distribution of child pornography on the Internet, U.S. law enforcement is using BitTorrent to track down and catch perpetrators. File-sharing networks and tools are used to transfer all sorts of files, including pornographic footage of children. The Department of Justice in the U.S. sees these cases as a high priority and has successfully prosecuted many cases in recent years. Several of these, were concluded with help from P2P file-sharing software. The software is modified to download complete files from a single source, so the investigator knows that the person on the other end has a full copy. “There is law enforcement-specific BitTorrent network software which allows for single-source downloads from a computer at a single IP address, meaning that an entire file or files are downloaded only from a computer at a single IP address as opposed to obtaining the file from multiple peers/clients on the BitTorrent network. “This procedure allows for the detection and investigation of those computers involved in sharing digital files of known or suspected child pornography on the BitTorrent network,” the affidavit adds.

In the present case a search by FBI special agent David Hand led to a Simi Valley man, who was arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury last week. In addition to distributing child pornography, a follow-up investigation unveiled more gruesome details. The indictment alleges that the man also took 83 images and three videos of a 6-year-old girl with his iPhone. Based on the above, the man faces lengthy prison terms for producing, distributing and possession of child pornography.
https://torrentfreak.com/fbi-uses-bittorrent-to-find-and-catch-child-porn-offenders-170415/
I hope they know how to filter out the torrents filled with dolphin porn.
The indictment alleges that the man also took 83 images and three videos of a 6-year-old girl with his iPhone
What kind of fucking idiot commits crimes using one of the least accessible devices in terms of being able to remove the kinds of shit that'll get you caught for crimes. Did he also keep icloud backups?
I hope they know how to filter out the torrents filled with dolphin porn.
your comment genuinely has me wondering now- is prosecution even possible for possession of bestiality? don't several states forbid it entirely? or do they punish both creator and consumer (disgust) equally?

I don't think this is that revolutionary, technically speaking. Also anyone who's sharing fucking child pornography on a public bittorrent stream is fucking braindead
your comment genuinely has me wondering now- is prosecution even possible for possession of bestiality? don't several states forbid it entirely? or do they punish both creator and consumer (disgust) equally?
Y'know, I know some states strictly forbid it, but I have no idea what federal rules we have, if any, against it. FBI wouldn't be involved if it's just a state thing, though.

The bulk of punishment comes from selling or producing it.
I don't think this is that revolutionary, technically speaking. That's just general computer illiteracy. Applies to like 95% of the population.
I thought they already did this?
Imagine thinking a peer-to-peer file sharing application would be the most secure way to share omega-illegal shit. Like, you can literally see the IP addresses that are seeding you/that you are seeding. ???
The FBI guy looks like Jay from RLM holy shit. Good think limewire isn't around anymore :v:
So if you modify your own torrent client to only ever distribute specific 50% of your downloads you're off the hook?
So if you modify your own torrent client to only ever distribute specific 50% of your downloads you're off the hook?
Yes, the world is that black and white
Many states don't actually punish for mere possession of zoophilic porn, either due to decriminalization or simple lack of laws expressly against it. The bulk of punishment comes from selling or producing it.
Indeed, and I believe the federal law only criminalizes the creation of zoophilic porn. I don't think even distribution is considered a federal crime, and I am all but certain that possession is federally legal. The things you learn when you look up the fact that Washington state only criminalized bestiality in 2006, thanks to a man dying as a result of it.
