That's pretty fucked up. Not going to lie, I'm glad that my grandmother moved out of that area.
I wonder if it has anything to do with drug cartels. [editline]23rd December 2017[/editline] Oh wait it literally mentions in the article the drug gangs. I'm fucking dumb.
Been kinda desensitised at this point where anything guesome proceeded or followed by " in Mexico" has just stopped being surprising anymore.
holy shit one time i ate a taco

What a close call!
Sorry that I don't want my 86 year old grandmother in an area where violence like that is even remotely close to her Why are you acting like my post was even remotely ridiculous? The "holy shit" wasn't because I felt like I dodged a bullet, it was because there were six bodies found hanged in an area that is fairly safe.
If you dodged a bullet by two years, you haven't actually dodged a bullet at all.

My whole family and I spent a week in Baja during Thanksgiving a month ago. There's always the looming threat of possible violence, but Baja is probably one of the safest states in Mexico. There was a lot of soldiers and police around because they absolutely want to protect their tourism industry there. Even some local cartels have stakes in the resorts and other tourist attractions so they also don't want people to stay away and not spend their money there. La Paz was pretty shady though. There was a massive police checkpoint just outside of La Paz when we were heading back to Todos Santos and they were stopping every single car. Even though Baja might be super touristy, you're still in Mexico at the end of the day.
I don't know why anyone would want to go to Mexico for a vacation. Even the "safe areas" are still in a country essentially in the middle of a gruesome civil war.

There are plenty of places in the United States that are way more dangerous than BCS that people travel to every year. We stayed in Todos Santos where it wasn't nearly as touristy as Cabo and we never felt unsafe. If you don't stand out and wave cash around then you'll be fine. There are so many cool places to visit and plenty of interesting people. In my opinion it was well worth the almost minuscule risk to visit there.
