Ex-Arizona cop acquitted in fatal shooting of sobbing, unarmed man at hotel
The shooting occurred in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa after officers ordered Shaver to exit his hotel room, lay face-down in a hallway and refrain from making sudden movements — or he risked being shot.
Shaver, 26, sobbed as he begged police not to shoot and was ordered to crawl toward officers. As he inched forward, he reached toward the waistband of his shorts. Brailsford said he fired his rifle because he believed Shaver was grabbing a handgun in his waistband.
Be warned though, the body cam footage is not for people with a weak stomach. But this is probably the closest I've seen to a literal execution where the cop gets off scott-free. I feel so awful for that poor man and his family and the woman who had to be there to witness his death
The cop had also already been fired for "unsatisfactory performance"
Holy fuck that was unbearable. That was without a doubt an execution and without a doubt uncalled for. The fact that he got away with cold blooded murder, and only got fired for it, is unacceptable. Jesus christ these people are paid with our tax dollars? What the fuck??
"Unsatisfactory performance" is the worst euphemism for "murdering a human being for no real reason" I've ever heard.
We live in a country where cops are allowed to panic and murder someone but civilians have to remain perfectly calm with a man pointing a gun into their face.
That was some surreal shit to watch. Guy was having a breakdown, got confused, and got lit up.
That was fucking brutal jesus. I hope this scenerio will haunt this lunatic forever and will remind him that he killed an innocent man.

He's probably going to run for office and win because he's Tough On Crime
This was fucking murder. I don't give a flying fuck that he got acquitted. As far as I'm concerned that cop is a fucking killer.
That was a fucking execution.
Jesus fucking Christ. Unbelievable.
I'm terrified that so many people's lives are at the mercy of trigger-happy police.
That man was compliant, he was coherent the entire time, he was even downright polite, he just broke down at the end because there were guns on him.
And they shot him for it.
I hope a picture of this ex-policeman gets everywhere, into every diner, every church, every town.
Everyone should know this guy's face and refuse him service.
Or better yet call the police on him if they see him on the street.
The police in the situation were being far too cautious and giving far too many orders for what they were called in for. They caused the man to break down and ultimately killed him for it.
They were called in because someone saw into his hotel window and saw a gun. There was no reason to make the situation that fucking complicated when he walked out of the room very clearly unarmed. They should have had him lay down, then cuffed him and searched him.
If it wasn't noted that the guy was a cop, the body cam almost feels like I'm watching a serial killer give people impossible commands, just so he has an excuse to kill them. I'm generally understanding why cops can get twitchy and shoot, but this is fucking stupid. The way he presented the information as, "either do exactly as I say or I get to legally murder you" is completely fucked.

It's lunatic red light green light.
A Mesa Police Department internal report found that the words “You’re f--ked” were inscribed on the on the dust cover of the AR-15 patrol rifle Philip “Mitch” Brailsford used to shoot 26-year-old Daniel Shaver.
State prosecutors argued that the words were a testament to Brailsford’s mindset at the time of the incident, but Maricopa County Superior Court Judge George Foster found the evidence “totally prejudicial” and ruled it inadmissible.
I wouldn’t say the commands were too much. It’s the officer’s attitude that drove the man to breakdown. The officer was explicit with his commands but he treated every single one of them as a life and death moment. It was ridiculously tense from the get-go because the officer was so aggressive. I felt the officer was unfairly grilling him down. The expectation is that they go in to de-escalate the situation but he pretty much asserted his dominance for no reason. He should not be acquitted, total miscarriage of justice if you ask me.

oh FUCK OFF. A cop should NEVER have that on his fucking gun.
I was watching this in the morning and it's still bothering me 7 hours later. These guys come in, scream retarded commands, waste the guy, and then spend so much time trying to get the hotel room open because they cant operate a fucking key card. Absolutely ridiculous that the jury even saw this footage and still acquitted the officer.
I'm so glad I don't live in the US. What a joke of a nation it has become.
... This judge should be in jail for life as well as this officer. He's obviously a corrupt sack of shit and needs to be punished for trying so fucking hard to get this video barred from the evidence.
Piccarreta argued that he's not seeking to ban the media from viewing the video, but to stop them from distributing it to their viewers during the trial, because it will hinder his client's fair-trial rights. He said once the media video records and uploads the footage to the internet, jurors could inadvertently be influenced by public discussion.
He also argued that a previous judge's order to keep the video sealed until after an acquittal or sentencing should be maintained during the trial proceedings.
Shortly after the shooting, a different judge had ordered the video not be released to the public until after an acquittal or sentencing, because it could taint a jury pool
Seriously, these judges need to be in prison. WIth how much power they have, abuses of power need to be treated very harshly, this is an obvious case of evidence suppression.
Shit like this makes me want a gun just to protect myself from cops, I know not all cops and not even a majority are like this but the chances of having to deal with an officer like this aren't zero percent and that's too fucking high. In any other developed country in the world I can interact with police and not have to worry if the officers going to get bored and shoot me.
I normally don't condone murder but I wouldn't mind if someone capped this fucker.

Yea pulling guns on cops ends well for most people I reckon

This seemed like a fucked if you do fucked if you don't situation. Perhaps if cops weren't so trigger happy people wouldn't feel the need to pull a gun on them to defend themselves.

I mean, hey, it's your Darwin Award, but I don't think I'd recommend doing that in any case...

Just how the fuck is keeping a gun on you going to protect yourself from a cop?
Then you go on to advocate murder of the shitty, murderous one here?

But then you get a vicious cycle of everybody being paranoid and trigger happy.

I mean, the state of Arizona clearly doesn't give a fuck about justice.
