A Massachusetts library is reminding residents that Chuck E. Cheese tokens are not an acceptable form of payment for overdue book fines.
Peabody Institute Library in Danvers, Massachusetts, posted on Facebook this week the library has had a surge of people attempting to pay fines and printing fees with tokens from Chuck E. Cheese and Bonkers— a Peabody amusement center —this summer.
The library says the tokens are not legal tender and cannot be accepted.

One person trying to do this, okay, that's silly enough.
The fact that multiple people tried this is just sad.
whats the conversion factor
whats the conversion factor
iirc it's 1 token roughly equals ~25 cents but that depends if you're buying as part of a package deal or not
Part of me suspects this is just a group of people trying to scam the library, not multiple individuals using tokens.

Probably not. I used to work at a movie theater that only accepted cash, you'd be surprised how many people had Chuck E Cheese tokens floating around in their pockets.
How stupid do you have to be? :v:

Yep, 25 cents. Funnily, they're also shaped exactly like quarters as well. So you can take them to Mr. Gatti's and play the games there as well (or really any arcade that accepts quarters). I think there's a minute difference in the thickness, but because of how old the hardware is in arcade games I'm pretty sure it has zero impact regardless of where you go. We had several employees who got blacklisted doing that :v:
What if I win a prize, and give it to the librarian? Will that work?
Reminds me of using Thailand's 10 Baht coins, they look just like 2€ coins but they're actually worth just 0.25€ so you can get 4 of those with just 1€. I've had some cashiers pay me with those when I return bottles or pay with larger bills.
