Kelli Stargel. At a Saturday debate on a proposed assault weapons ban in the Florida legislature, Stargel said “it’s not the weapon, it’s the evil from within” that leads people to commit deadly crimes. “When we say ‘thoughts and prayers,’ it’s frowned upon. And I take real offense at that because thoughts and prayers are really the only thing that’s gonna stop the evil from within the individual who is taking up their arms to do this kind of a massacre,” Stargel said. Stargel’s remarks come about three weeks after a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland that left 17 people dead. Since the shooting, a convoy of Parkland students and parents, along with hundreds of parents and activists from across the state, descended on Tallahassee to lobby legislators on gun control, particularly banning assault rifles. But Stargel seems unlikely to budge. “But are we going to ban fertilizer, which is what they used in the Oklahoma bombing?” Stargel said. “Are we going to ban pressure cookers, which is what they used in the Boston massacre? Are we going to ban the multiple handguns that were used in other assaults? Are we going to ban the sawed-off shotgun as what was used in Columbine?” she asked.
ooooooooooooouhhh we're gonna whip out the thoughts and prayers, a shooter's worst nightmare! Really though, this is the stupidest thing I've heard in the debate for a long time.
Somehow they went even stupider than that BoJack Horseman parody episode.
I don't mean to sound edgy, but what good are thoughts & prayers if God let this happen anyway? "Ah, see, you didn't meet your biannual thought & prayer quota, 'nother school shooting, sorry guys."
does he also hold up a cross if someone points a gun at him?
Not yesterday did I say that they only say the "thoughts and prayers" shit to shove off legitimate argument for as long as possible, not something they truly believe and that they have a heart buried under the piles o cash. Holy hell, I can only pray someone brings this state senator to his senses.
Somehow they went even stupider than that BoJack Horseman parody episode.
The amount of times we've had to compare real life headlines to Onion articles throughout the last two years is exhausting.
This magical thinking shit is the reason people want to take your guns away. Because they don't trust you to think rationally. People like this woman and the NRA are making gun owners look like fucking idiots and they need to primary these assholes and set up a new pro-gun organization that isn't run like a conservative cult. I like the idea of a country that's mature and healthy enough to have an armed populace without having to deal with constant issues like these school shootings. I think that'd be great, and much better than just trying to band-aid the problem with stupid bans that'd probably amount to prohibition 2.0. But that's the sticking point. If we want to get to that point, we need to actually do something about this shit.
Fine then. I am now thinking of, and praying for, him to be struck by a bolt of lightning. We'll see if Thor listens better than Colt.
James 2:14-26 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead..
TL;DR Even the bible says that this is bullshit.

For Fuck sake...now the conservatives are operating on Warhammer 40k logic...
I pray that this senator will lose his job
Thinking that there is some "evil" force behind the motivation for these shootings is dangerous, archaic thinking that needs to stop before we can legislate better mental healthcare.
Y'know, it's people like this making meme statements that really do no one any good. Jesus. It really confuses me that people legitimately think this way.
So, God is such an evil cunt that he will let children die if he doesn't get the amount of prayers he wants? What kind of belief system is that? Who would want to believe in such a god?
So, God is such an evil cunt that he will let children die if he doesn't get the amount of prayers he wants? What kind of belief system is that? Who would want to believe in such a god?
No, it's not god allowing these shootings to happen, some genuinely believe that if children don't go to church satan will creep up and tell them to do bad things.
It is utterly fucking disgusting that these people in charge of leading our country in such an important way don't even have critical thinking / problem solving skills enough to see that when someone does something such as a mass shooting there are fucking REASONS and CAUSES for that and it's not just some mystical evil force compelling them that we could not possibly hope to stop. I just do not get the ideology of wishing to stay in the stone ages. If you're a "~~conservative~~" you should go live on a fucking farm in Alabama with no one but your family and stay away from the rest of the world (politics especially) that, rather than dragging the world back with values from times where average lifespan was around 60 and men had fucking duels to settle disagreements, wants to make the Earth a better place for all people, using actual science, reasoning, and logical thought. Why in the world can someone who can't establish cause/effect reasoning be elected to lead even PART of this country?????
No, it's not god allowing these shootings to happen, some genuinely believe that if children don't go to church satan will creep up and tell them to do bad things.
Satan is a creation of God, though, so I guess that whole free will thing was a mistake.
If i see the boston bombing referred to as the boston massacre one more time im gonna go nuts. That is soooo disengenuous
I don't mean to sound edgy, but what good are thoughts & prayers if God let this happen anyway? "Ah, see, you didn't meet your biannual thought & prayer quota, 'nother school shooting, sorry guys."
Maybe the thoughts and prayers are getting misdirected and only preventing school shootings in every other country
So the evil behind school shootings can be prevented with thoughts and prayers, but somehow isn't even present in other countries that aren't Christian, and even in countries where people are less Christian. I'm not making any correlations here, quite the opposite. This isn't rational in any way, it's mad man logic. The United States is filled with politicians it seems who are completely out of their mind, and should have had a psychiatric evaluation before even being able to consider going political. These kind of statements are hurtful to literally every single person. It hurts those affected, it hurts those who believe, those who don't, and it even hurts himself. What an absolute moron.
Holy hell, I can only pray someone brings this state senator to his senses.
you have my support, sending my thoughts and prayers your way.
So, God is such an evil cunt that he will let children die if he doesn't get the amount of prayers he wants? What kind of belief system is that? Who would want to believe in such a god?
Hence the term “god-fearing”, I think?
So the evil behind school shootings can be prevented with thoughts and prayers, but somehow isn't even present in other countries that aren't Christian, and even in countries where people are less Christian.
It's funny since I can point on my own country (Czech Republic) as the perfect example of how bullshit that statement is. One of the least religious along with one of the most lax gun laws countries in the entire world yet we don't seem to be having issues with people going nuts every other month.
Deflect Missiles Starting at 3rd level, you can use your reaction to deflect or catch the missile when you are hit by a ranged weapon attack. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the missile if it is small enough for you to hold in one hand and you have at least one hand free. If you catch a missile in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make a ranged attack with the weapon or piece of ammunition you just caught, as part of the same reaction. You make this attack with proficiency, regardless of your weapon proficiencies, and the missile counts as a monk weapon for the attack, which has a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet.
source
While every country has dumb politicians in their government, America takes the prize almost every time. I'm at that point that i know some politician is gonna say stupid shit, but i'm suprised over how they spout the most retarded shit ever and still have a job in the government.
Is he suggesting that the parents of the victims didn't pray for the safety of their children? Because his point could be really easily countered by them just saying, "we did that but it still happened"
