Severe vandalism of a youth-led beekeeping social enterprise in Halifax over the weekend may have a sweet ending.
At least 20,000 bees in one hive were killed. As many as 40,000 to 50,000 more from a second hive are still in peril after vandals used basketballs and sticks to open and knock over the two hives sometime before Friday night’s heavy rain.
The beehives belong to the BEEA Honey with Heart youth social enterprise, an initiative of Family SOS. The youth caring for hives at the Greystone Community site in Spryfield were busy preparing for their first crop of honey this year.
“They are all very sad. The kids in Spryfield lobbied to get these bees ... The community pulled together to get the bees here so everybody is really devastated and they’ve lost a little bit of hope,” said Donna Morrison, executive director of Family SOS.
:frown: You have to be such a massive shitbag to do this to bee colonies in light of declining bee populations worldwide. I hope whoever did this got stung in the gooch, the fuckers.
It's almost as if humanity is sabotaging ourselves at keeping our own planet habitable.
They should honestly give the fuckers that did this some serious jail time, considering how serious of an issue the declining bee population is.
Pity the bees didn't kill them.

The bee populations worldwide have been increasing actually,

Doesn't mean there isn't a "die off" of course, but it's been highly sensationalized by media that doesn't understand the bee industry, the fact that wild bees and other pollinators aren't accounted for and so forth.

Wait, what? I've always been hearing about and reading articles about the fact that beehives are getting fucked, like so : http://www.foxnews.com/science/2017/02/21/declining-honey-bee-population-could-spell-trouble-for-some-crops.html
They're actually increasing? Now I'm confused.

At least mainstream news' coverage of science, that is. More often than not journalists don't really understand what they're talking about.

This one only goes up to 2013.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_world_stocks_of_beehives
Basically the apocalyptic scenario that media is playing up is likely not very accurate. Beekeepers aren't idling when they see their colonies die, they find better ways to take care of them, probably import more bees and so on.

I've been looking to setup a colony in my garden, but my neighbors doesn't like the idea :frown:

Your neighbours sound unpleasant, you should acquire Africanized bees.
At my parents apartment building my dad was interested in keeping bees (his granny used to look after bees in his village when he grew up) so he made it happen on the roof of the apartment block.
They're pretty awesome and a natural theft deterrent for anyone who wants to come in via the roof :v:.

What the fuck is wrong with people?
What makes someone think think this is a good idea?
But, why bees? Out of all the things one could possibly choose to vandalize I'm curious on what led to the decision like "Yeah let's go to that group full of bee hives over there and fuck with them" to sound good.
Okay,I'm really not a fan of bees because they act like wasps around me and make me run into roads but what the fuck was this guy doing.Seriously, what the fuck would have to motivate some sack of piss to even do this I just
what
How does one knock beehives over with baseball bats and basketballs without being turned into a human pin cushion
Cause they really should have
Bunch of dumbass
Won't they just swarm and make a new hive somewhere else? Or did they kill all of them? They might be fucked if the queen died tho
Worst thing is when you ask fuckwits like these why the fuck did they do that they become overly aggressive and don't explain shit.
bees really need our help they dont need this poor bees

US beekeeping hives are dying off specifically. That is what is happening.
We have a lot of shitty practices going on in the states that have lead to mass deaths among beekeeping hives.
Now, wild bees and beekeeping across the world is a completely different story.
They should honestly give the fuckers that did this some serious jail time, considering how serious of an issue the declining bee population is.
I say give them the Eddie Izzard treatment, and COVER THEM IN BEEEEEES.
Or more accurately strip them down, tell them it's going to be bees, then unleash wasps instead, since most bees can only sting once and end up dying because they tore their guts out. Wasps, on the other hand, don't kill themselves when they sting you, so they can sting you multiple times and eventually run out of venom. Also wasp venom probably hurts more than the sting of a honeybee.
In fact, wild bees in the US specifically I believe are doing great. Our forest and wildlife protection projects have gone swimmingly across the country and bees are just one of many, many species benefiting from that.

They're from Halifax, the little shits
fucking mainlanders I hate them so much
Punishment should also include a mandatory daily Bee movie screening until they can recite the entire script
Crimes against humanity, honestly.

Just lock 'em in a chamber with 5 or so of these:

I'm not so sure about using cazadors, man. Run of the mill wasps would be enough.
And they'd be cheap. Don't want to spend TOO much on these worthless creatures.

That's a real wasp. Its sting is one of the most painful on the planet.

you know normally if this was applied to like dogs or something I'd consider this a meh post
but bees are actually kind of way more important than these idiots
[editline]13th June 2017[/editline]
like, without bees, I wouldn't have gotten this amazing honey-shot avatar
also those global tragedies that would occur without them around helping the plants
