• Ford replaces chief executive
Ford has sacked its chief executive, Mark Fields, following a major reshuffle at the US car giant. His departure comes as Ford faces weak sales, falling profits and a near-40% decline in its share price since Mr Fields took up his role in 2014. He is being replaced by Jim Hackett, who heads Ford's autonomous driving division. Last week, the carmaker said it planned to cut about10% of its global workforce. ... Last month, Ford's stock market value fell behind Tesla, the electric car upstart that has never made a profit. It was a symbolic moment that underlines Ford's problems. Thats what happens when your cars have massive failure rates. Transmission, turbos, and all the electronics constantly shitting the bed.
Thats what happens when your cars have massive failure rates. The real deal here is that their vehicle prices are sky high. $30k to $70k for an F-150, and F-250s are like a minimum of $50k. They are simply becoming too expensive for people to afford, thus pushing out less stock.
Part of the issue is the constantly climbing F series prices. People want to buy them as a cheap work truck, but Ford keeps throwing more unnecessary shit into them and raising the prices.

The F series isn't the problem.

I think Ford just sucks at marketing. I don't know many people who like modern Fords, they've done nothing to recover their impression of unreliability. Dodge is in the same boat with the unreliability but their cars are desirable because if Dodge knows how to do anything it's sell cars to Americans. I can't think of a memorable Ford advertisement.
Autonomous driving division, eh? I wonder how this will affect the Ranger and Bronco as well as the main line up.

I think they look fantastic and I hope to be trading my f150 crew in for a 2016-17 super duty crew next year if everything goes as planned. People always complain about rising truck prices but adjusted for inflation the super duty diesel my dad bought in 2004 is comparable in price to the same model today. I would venture to say that Ram is falling behind because a lack of a model refresh. The current line was the slickest on the road when they launched but that was what, 2010-2012? The new Ford, GMC and Chevy truck models have simply become more modern looking. It'll be interesting to see what dodge comes up with to compete but I feel like they are going to hold on to the current model a little longer than they should to stay competitive.

Everyone I know loves the current Dodge trucks and doesn't want them to change. :v: I think they're great looking trucks, if I need a truck in the next couple years I already know who I'm going to. The Fords and Chevies are nice looking but I dunno, the Dodges look tougher.
Mmhm, F-series and Mustang are what keeps Ford afloat.
The Focus and Fiesta are two of the top 10 selling cars in the world according to Forbes.

We have a Longhorn edition 2500 and it is honestly awesome and crushes the King Ranch from Ford.

The Fords and Chevies are nice looking but I dunno, the Dodges look tougher.
I hear the Dodges have all sorts of quality issues, one I recently read in a review was the cabin having leaks during the rain and another on a forum where the bed wasn't bolted down at all. But what else would you expect from FCA. Also the front grilles look silly, like somebody got their nose pushed in. Overly masculine trucks look ridiculous. I'd probably end up with one of the new Colorado's or Ranger when it hits the market, seeing as its just slightly cheaper than a XL F-150 Supercab.

If I was going to buy a pick up truck today it would have to be an F-150.
Part of the issue is the constantly climbing F series prices. People want to buy them as a cheap work truck, but Ford keeps throwing more unnecessary shit into them and raising the prices.
This isn't an issue with Ford so much as it is a problem with dealer networks. The F-150 is Ford's cash cow, and dealers of any brand don't like to carry poverty-spec versions of any vehicle because the return is not as great as with a loaded version. In addition, the loaded ones are the ones people drive off in, not necessarily because they're pressured into them by salespeople, but because most (but obviously not all) people are convinced they want the "cheap work truck" until they sit in the loaded one. Ford is just meeting the demands of both consumers and dealers, who ultimately control what cars are available for purchase. You might get lucky and find a cheapo F-150 that a dealer carries just to advertise a low msrp, but you can also speak to a dealer about ordering a truck in a specific configuration, even the work version. That is standard for any dealership. (or you could wait for the ranger)
my family owns a 2012 focus and explorer, since then they've gotten like, 3 or 4 safety recalls each. we just got one a few months ago for an issue that's been happening since we got the car :s:
They keep getting bigger and bigger and that sucks if you want a light truck.
The problem is import light trucks are stupidly tariffed and have been since the 70s-80s, which allows 'murican manufacturers to be lazy as fuck, so we end up with garbage like the Chevy Colorado. (and historically, the ford ranger and dodge dakota which aren't being made now) They don't have to innovate because all the good trucks will be far more expensive for the same spec, it also allows them to have total control of business fleets in america, because no business is gonna spend more than they need to for 'polished' trucks when they can get cheaper trucks that 'justwerk'. This can be worked around with light vans, which is why you might see a few Mercedes, Nissan and other ugly little vans in american fleets, but plenty of places still need an open truck bed.
Not surprising, Fords are junk

Even Dodge has been spotted with a Fiat Toro mule here.
My generation of Explorer is considered the most defective car ever. I have the '04. The transmission will probably go soon.
Where I live, there are more Fords than most other makes as far as new cars go. In particular there are tons of Ford Fusions, with the next most popular car being the new Honda Civic. At the end of the day it really depends on where you live. You can live in a place dominated by one brand and then drive an hour to the next closest place just to have it dominated by another.
And it'll only cost slightly more than 2-3 2017 F750's!
With 100% less gasoline usage on a vehicle that would otherwise get 16mpg on a good day! As well as have the autonomous features of a Tesla to boot.
