A man pulled a rifle from under his white lab coat and opened fire inside a Bronx hospital Friday, killing at least one person and wounding others before apparently taking his own life, authorities said. The gunfire broke out at 2:50 p.m. inside the Bronx Lebanon Hospital, bringing police cars and firetrucks rushing to the scene and sending officers onto the roof with their guns drawn as people inside the building were told to hide. Officers went floor by floor looking for the gunman and reported just before 4 p.m. that the shooter was dead inside the building. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press that the gunman apparently killed himself. There was no immediate word on a motive, but the law enforcement official said the gunman may have been a former employee. According to the law enforcement official, the shooter was wearing a lab coat and had the rifle concealed. The official was not authorized to discuss the still-unfolding investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
AP
If it was a former employee, sounds like a laid off one that went postal, a bad day made him target the worst place, or misplaced anger at the system perhaps. Too soon to speculate, but goddamn.
Man, that's depressing. Hope everyone copes with the trauma well.
That is one ugly weapon
It's the result of our state government deciding that pistol grips and thumbhole stocks somehow increase killing power.
Think of all the people that would have been killed if his rifle grip was more vertical though. Think of all the children
The gunman was a former doctor at the hospital, and the victims were all physicians. This guy was allowed to resign after allegations of sexual harassment, then he went postal in revenge. He was also known as a troublesome employee who yelled at people a lot. Jesus fucking H christ, how did he even get through medical school with such an unstable personality.
His former co-workers described a man who was aggressive, loud, and threatening. “All the time he was a problem,” said Dr. David Lazala, who trained Bello as a family medicine doctor. When Bello was forced out in 2015, he sent Lazala an email blaming him for the dismissal. “We fired him because he was kind of crazy,” Dr. Maureen Kwankam told the Daily News. “He promised to come back and kill us then.” The Daily News reported Saturday that it had received an email purportedly from Bello about two hours before the rampage. “This hospital terminated my road to a licensure to practice medicine,” the email said. “First, I was told it was because I always kept to myself. Then it was because of an altercation with a nurse.” He also blamed a doctor for blocking his chances at getting a chance to practice medicine.
x
Pretty crazy that even someone literally IN the medical sector didn't get proper mental healthcare
Here's what the rifle looked like source of the picture apparently he had a grudge against someone and that was his target.
(Picture of metal tube with trigger attached) Here's what the rifle looked like
Because fuck grips, right? That is hideous
Get ready for more knee jerk legislation against guns. Mags are technically still limited to 7 (the judge ruling apparently doesnt count), so they don't have much further they can go until with that. Pistol grips are ded more or less, removable magazines mean you can't have anything else, thumbhole stocks are dead as well. Threaded barrels are just like mags (aka limit what else you can have and in practice are a nope), pistols with non-grip mags are infinite illegal-o. Basically all they could do is restrict mags or restrict method of firing (semi, etc.). Honestly though the real point is regardless of what you try to do, the problem is still there because they're trying to fight a symptom instead of the problem. Shootings are going to keep happening as long as people keep ignoring people who are clearly showing signs of being a problem. I mean the guy straight up said he was going to come back and kill everyone when he was fired.

They just start taking away things that sound or look scary. NY is the state where the famous line "shoulder thing that goes up" comes from. Eventually theyll go full AWB and get rid of semi rifles all together, especially since current restrictions dont do anything and theyre easy to bypass. [editline]2nd July 2017[/editline] To further my point, the SAFE act was so hastily written and submitted that it had to be immediately ammended because they forgot to exempt police from the bill.
I understand he might have had a grudge or whatever, but why do this... I hate some people too, but offing your nemesis or whatever and then yourself seems like such a waste of life. However, it does seem like a lot of pressure gathered up over a career he probably wanted to go for.
His "nemesis" wasn't even there, idiot didn't take the time to even see if he was there and the person who died was some random woman covering a shift for another doctor. Sad how hindsight is 20/20 in these cases, problem is you can't really tell when a person is just angry/scared at being fired or when the threats are actually real and the guy comes back 2 years later like this. Even worse is that it probably wouldn't of stopped this even if he had been reported as I am sure at the time he made the threat he didn't have any weapons or he would've done it then as opposed to later. Just seems so strange, he had 2 YEARS to get over this and instead uses it to bide his time for revenge but somehow couldn't even show up on a proper day the doctor was there? I just don't see how this guy even got so far into the medical field with such incompetence and such little regard for human life.
