First released with the very first version of Windows 1.0 in 1985, Paint in its various guises would be one of the first graphics editors used by many and became a core part of Windows. Starting life as a 1-bit monochrome licensed version of ZSoft’s PC Paintbrush, it wasn’t until Windows 98 that Paint could save in JPEG.
With the Windows 10 Creators Update, released in April, Microsoft introduced the new Paint 3D, which is installed alongside traditional Paint and features 3D image making tools as well as some basic 2D image editing. But it is not an update to original Paint and doesn’t behave like it.
Now Microsoft has announced that, alongside Outlook Express, Reader app and Reading list, Microsoft Paint has been signalled for death having been added to the “features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update” list.
:(
Good riddance.
If they had half a brain they'd have paint.net installed from the get-go.
It's an old feature for sure, and I remember it even in windows 98, but does ANYONE honestly use it in any serious manner? I've always preferred paint.net.
Bit lame they're removing features though.
Man, I don't know anyone who didn't used to draw images as a kid on Paint. Sad to see it go, but from what I've used Paint 3D is every bit as powerful and more.
I think everybody will agree, without the sentimental value, Paint has no point in being included
rip MS Paint
I have used you to make sprite art, a million shitty rushed meme pics, and two-second crop/resizes for over decade. You were more than an art program, you were your very own brand and your very own style.
[sp]I'll probably just redownload it if it gets removed[/sp]

rip magnificent program

Just use Paint 3D, it's its successor, it should be able to do exactly what you were able to do in MS Paint
Put it in Windows Store like what they did to Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts.
I'd like to use paint3d but it won't open when I run it. R.I.P Paint.
Paint isn't being removed, it's only being deprecated. It will still be usable in the Fall Creator's Update.
I'm personally more upset about the fact that screensavers are being phased out. I want my After Dark, god damnit

WHAT! You mean I wasn't the only one who did that? I thought I invented it.
It's not removed yet. It's deprecated. That means it might be removed some time after this update gets released
Edit: ninja'd

likely that I will, but it takes like two more seconds to boot up and requires more clicks through to adjust the canvas size
I know that these are dumb, minor things, but like I said, most of what I use ms paint for is crops/resizes and dumb meme pics that take me literally like five seconds to crank out
It's deprecated, that doesn't mean it's going to be removed.
The fact that they haven't updated it in ages doesn't mean they're just going to randomly remove it.
Shit thread title.
I guess I'll have to teach people at work how to use paint 3d now. :hammered:
Looks like screen savers are being entirely removed as well.

As well as the infamous tech support scam tool SysKey
Aw what, can they just have the opt-out option for screensavers? They help reflect the personality of the user and there's some really neat ones out there.
But I use paint all the time when I don't feel like using photoshop...

I just realized it's been years since I've seen a screensaver.
Weird to think about.
I use Paint to quickly crop images cause paint.net takes ages to load. So it has some value to me.
Man, if I ever reinstall windows there goes my muscle memory of pasting a printscreen in paint to save it.
my god stop panicking, MSPaint will have the same scenario as Windows Photo Viewer, it's going to be a legacy program hidden in the OS, just few regedit tweaks and it's back.
Paint is my go-to for everything.
WHY?!?
F
RIP
I shit you not but I use paint all the time when I need to quickly visualize a problem when programming.

The only screensaver I'd ever use is is 16bit, so no worky on 64bit OS.

Yeah I've thought about that too. In terms of being practical, it's useless.

I disagree completely. There is a time and place for paint. When i want to make a quick diagram for somebody im not going to load up GIMP of visio just to draw a couple boxes with some text. Paint 3D fails at the '5 second mockup' concept just due to the added depth of menus you need to navigate to just draw a couple squares and throw some text on them. Minus load time, which i normally have GIMP open all the time anyway, theres no reason for me to use paint 3d over gimp, as there is zero need for me to be drawing things in 3d.
