Jimmy Carter gets medical attention after collapsing from dehydration in Winnipeg
Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter received medical attention for dehydration while in Winnipeg on Thursday, where he is helping build a Habitat for Humanity home.
The statement from the organization said that Carter was being rehydrated in hospital, and his wife was with him.
A Habitat volunteer told CBC News he saw Carter, 92, collapse after he'd been working in the sun for about an hour, using a handsaw to cut wood for a staircase.
Carter's bodyguards rushed over and carried him to a nearby vehicle. Shortly afterwards, firefighters and paramedics were seen scrambling, and an ambulance arrived.
The media was pushed back from the view of Carter before the ambulance left the site, followed immediately by his motorcade.
A motorcade of black vehicles remained parked outside the emergency doors at St. Boniface Hospital.
A spokesperson for Habitat for Humanity told media that Carter was taken there as a precaution, for observation. The former president has told the organizers he is feeling fine.
"He's asked us to continue with our day," said Jonathan Reckford, CEO for Habitat for Humanity International.
"He encourages everyone to stay hydrated and keep building."
Reckford said any further information on Carter's condition will have to come from the Carter Center, a not-for-profit organization founded by the ex-president.
Western Canada has been going through a heat wave for the past while. I hope he recovers well, sucks though it happened.
That man's a true example of a humble leader. I'm glad he's doing alright.
92 and still wanting to do habitat stuff personally, what a trooper
sorry on behalf of everyone if my city kills Jimmy Carter, he's a good man. welcome to Manitoban summers.
The Brits think their queen is immortal, but they've never met President Carter.
Hope he recovers. The example he has set with his post-office work has been inspirational.
holy shit lmao Jimmy Carter at 92, still using a handsaw to cut wood for Habitats for Humanity. what a guy

Bless his rugose old heart.
That presidential pension is coming in handy huh. Who needs life alert when youve got body guards.

don't previous presidents get protected by the secret service for free?

This may be one of the most ignorant or uneducated things I have seen recently.
All former presidents are given lifetime Secret Service protection. Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012, signed by Obama, reinstated the protections. Nixon is the only president to refuse post-office protection.

Guess he thought he was gonna be robot Nixon and not need it.
Jimmy Carter was back at a Habitat for Humanity worksite Friday, a day after the former president was hospitalized for dehydration while working with the organization to build homes for needy families in Canada.
A smiling Carter showed up in blue jeans and a work shirt to the site in the St. James neighborhood of Winnipeg, where hundreds of Habitat for Humanity volunteers joined him and his wife, Rosalynn, to build 25 homes.
I hope Carter is remembered as a great man and not just as someone who fucked up in the white house.

I'm sure he will be. He really wasn't the best president, came in at a shitty time and had to handle things beyond his control, like the Iranian hostage crisis, and was blamed for things beyond his control.
But hes a humble man, drives a really old presidential caddy from when I saw him in Georgia, and is constantly doing activist work.
Jimmy Carter could have been one of the best presidents of the entire century were he not fucked by luck
Might not have been the best president, but he was the best man.
