Netflix CEO says net neutrality is ‘not our primary battle’
Speaking with Recode’s Peter Kafka at the Code Conference today, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings explained his position on the current net neutrality debate that’s happening at the FCC. Or, more to the point, he addressed the fact that he’s been awfully quiet about it compared to how loudly he defended net neutrality in previous fights.
What a sellout

People are just giving the fuck up aren't they
it's not like anyone in the FCC would listen anyways lmao
It should be
I honestly hope Amazon/Hulu/YouTube take this statement and shove it up Netflix's ass with some good show of force against net neutrality. This guy just flip-flopped harder than a fish out of water.
Would could possibly be a larger battle at the current time for Netflix?
Oh so wow remember a couple years ago when YOU FUCKS were fighting against SOPA and shit because it takes away net neutrality and would fuck you over??
Yeah... I sure do.

So which ISP did they make the deal with is what I wanna know.
"We have fucktons of money now, we don't have care."
“The Trump FCC is going to unwind the rules no matter what anybody says,” Hastings argues. He might believe that net neutrality is “important for society,” but his company, Netflix, isn’t in trouble so it’s not going to get into the fight. “We had to carry the water when we were growing up and we were small,” Hastings said. “Other companies have to be on that leading edge.”
You can’t blame a company for paying attention to its existential problems — for Netflix it’s growing globally. But if you were hoping that it would be a warrior for net neutrality now just because it was then... stop doing that.
I think this is actually pretty reasonable, I wish he was doing more to show the companies support though.

If there's anything in the world that the Trump FCC will listen to, it is corporations like Amazon, Netflix, etc. That is the only counter to the other voices in their heads (Verizon, Comcast, etc).

The people against Net Neutrality are the ones investing the big bucks into lobbying to prevent Net Neutrality from being upheld. I would not be so optimistic that the Trump FCC would do anything so sane and rational such as what you were hoping for.
Netflix of all places should understand the value to everyone that a healthy and competitive market creates. Three words: Netflix Original Series. Although not all of them are gold, they are sort of a bastion of really damn nice shows of all kinds, drama, comedy features, even anime.
That is how competition is supposed to work. It's supposed to be high-effort on the end of the provider and enjoyable on the end of the consumer. They want more customers in a world where we have other services? They help produce/fund/greenlight high quality content that then gets put on their service. Looking at what competitive service to use is supposed to feel like looking at a menu at an ice cream shop. It's supposed to be fun, you are looking at all the things they are enticing you with to come and try them out.
What the FCC is doing is the exact opposite of that. It's killing pleasant competition for a more enforced form. Who needs to put in effort to compete when we can just make it more difficult and annoying or expensive to go somewhere else? Now choosing a service feels like choosing who to pay more money to so you can get less in return, that's a shit choice. I'm afraid that if Net Neutrality goes out the window we will see a lack of any other kind of competition besides what NN being gone opens up for them to abuse.

not really, pjit has been a giant jackass since he was nominated by the republicans. He wouldn't even meet with wheeler, ever, like in all of the three years they worked together, then complained that wheeler never consulted him even though he had a weekly meeting scheduled with him for three fucking years
they will be dragged through the courts because they're ignoring every portion of the rule making process to tear this thing down
I hope that the internet is wrong and actually just massively over-reacting
and that net neutrality isn't nearly as big of a deal as people think it is and that not having it won't be that terrible for the internet
if nothing actually changes for us outside of an illusion of protection, I'll be content with that. NN was only a thing since obama after all, I can't really recall issues before it but those were different times.
Chances are this 'stupid level of optimism' is wrong but we just have to see at this point cause clearly it's not staying.

If you ever miss the good old 2008 ad experience just head to any Wikia without blocking anything. It legit crashes my phone's browser if I try to visit a wikia on mobile. Every time.

I doubt it.

Did you already forget that Netflix back out this time.
Netflix probably got pricing ahead of time this time around.
I doubt Comcast etc. mind Netflix having a monopoly on streaming in the US if they're getting a nice, big slice of the cake.
I believe Netflix already paid money to Comcast to "prevent a traffic jam". If NetNeutrality is gone then they don't have to pay to prevent a traffic jam anymore because the ISPs themselves will create and maintain them and put it on their own customers to pay to 'prevent' them
That makes no sense. Without net neutrality comcast can just say sorry you don't get netflix without it being throttled into oblivion unless you have our super streaming top tier internet package. I mean it feels like losing net neutrality would directly hurt the streaming services first because they're direct competitors to cable.

Comcast charging Netflix to "prevent a traffic jam" is already the opposite of net neutrality. Netflix gave up on net neutrality long ago.
