Magic mushrooms are the safest recreational drug, study says
Are magic mushrooms safe?
A new survey found that when it comes to recreational drug use, magic mushrooms appear to be the safest drug.
Only .2% of almost 10,000 people who reported taking psilocybin hallucinogenic mushrooms in 2016 reported that they needed emergency medical treatment, according to the annual Global Drug Survey. The survey, of more than 120,000 participants in 50 countries, found that the rates of emergency medical treatment for MDMA, LSD, alcohol and cocaine were almost five times higher.
Magic mushrooms can be risky and cause panic attacks or confusion, Adam Winstock, a consultant addiction psychiatrist and founder of the Global Drug Survey told the Guardian.
So long as you have a clean sitter, you should be ok.
So Marijuana is not a recreational drug anymore?

I can guarantee marijuana is the cause of a large percentage of heart attack calls (which is what this article is basing its findings on). Especially now, weed is getting damn powerful. I even feel the heart shit sometimes.

apparently it's worse under that measure

what is that graph actually measuring?

shrooms are safer than pot
Time to start necking some shrooms then.

well that's the thing with shrooms, you take them once then you don't want to take them again for like a month. It's weird and chemical (and obviously doesn't apply to everyone), but you can take shrooms, love it, then just have no desire to do it again for a month or so. Even pot gives you minor desires to do it again simply because it's fun.

It's from this pdf that was linked in the article; https://www.globaldrugsurvey.com/wp-content/themes/globaldrugsurvey/results/GDS2017_key-findings-report_final.pdf
it measures how many people seek emergency treatment after using a drug, globally. Page 20 of the study.
you're looking at Psilocybin (shrooms)

also the units at the bottom can be a bit confusing, basically everything before caffeine can't kill you

Could the graph be skewed exponentially by the fact that there are many more users of marijuana than there are users of shrooms?

Are, like, pot people paying you to promote their product? Product placement probably isn't permitted.

It's already addressed in the study, actually. It's just meant to provide an insight into the various observed aspects among the respondents in the study group, and is no way representative of individual cohorts done on a larger scale within each country, and this is the biggest limitation of the lot because factors such as age of use, what drugs used, precise demographics, gender, and so on vary quite a bit with each country, and even each part of a given country. At best you can use it as a proxy measure of the sort of harm drug use can cause following the intake of drugs or alcohol.
One of the reasons I can think of is that shrooms can't really be cut with other crap like they do with other drugs. So it's safer in that regard.

Stats accounts for that, mate. That's like the most basic thing to account for.
If anything I would try arguing that people have a healthier respect for what shrooms can potentially do so use it more responsibly, but that is just a theory.

Yeah I get paid shit loads to plug the hell out of pot. The global pot kingpin loves it when i blast FP with pot related questions.
Drives the selling rate right up!

The y-axis is percentage, so in this case no (but other factors aren't controlled for it seems).
They should have labeled that properly in the image file itself, assuming this isn't just a bad crop.
I've tried them twice.
It made the movie Warcraft bearable, though I actually had no idea what was going on but the magic scenes were cool.
Can confirm that I've had nothing but good vibes from them. Although it was truffles I took as opposed to shrooms but by my understanding it's the same compound at work (Psilocybin?).
It's really hard to describe but it's an enlightening experience that I can take or leave doing again.
It's way more debilitating than pot though. I couldn't function outside of a safe space whilst tripping.
Make sure you have a sitter and also make sure you ID the shrooms before taking them if you pick them.
They may be the safest physiologically but psychologically they can do some real damage.
Shrooms are the only known psychedelic to have a permanent effect on a person's personality.
I've done them twice, the first time was rough because a lot of heavy shit went down on campus that night, but the second time was wonderful. Glad to hear that they're pretty safe.
Used magic mushrooms a bunch of times, its no surprise it isn't physically harmful since you just eat them and not inhale any smoke into your lungs/inject it into your veins or whatever.
However people should note that despite the lack of physical harm, the possibility for psychological harm is incredible. Psilocybin use should never be as carefree or casual as cannabis use is nowadays, and god forbid if someone hops behind the wheel on an eighth of cubensis.
zoomers are wonderful
I disagree, the long term pyschology effects of a really bad trip still affect me and can easy trigger dormant mental disorders. After my last shrooms trip I stopped taking any other drugs because I was so shook.
I really do not suggest taking them if your family has any history of mental disorders or if you are depressed because a really intense mushroom trip is like experiencing madness.

I feel ya. I haven't had any bad experiences with shrooms, but the few times I took them I always felt like I was walking on a razor's edge where falling off would mean descending into eternal madness. Also, I had been depressed for nearly 6 years when I took shrooms for the first time and I am probably lucky that I haven't been affected in any noticable way.
Honestly, I don't think it's fair to call shrooms a recreational drug. Perhaps at low doses, but if you're just looking to get high and have fun I'd look to other drugs.
after becoming a stoner and smoking weed fairly often now, something has always strongly compelled me to try a psychedelic at least once in my life cause ive never tripped before, and this thread is reinforcing that. ive done my research on psilocin and many other psychedelic and dissociative chemicals, as well as read numerous trip reports too. i really want to try DMT also
I've done shrooms a handful of times, both alone and with friends, I prefer it over LSD as it only lasts a few hours. would highly recommend making tea out of them if you're going to do them, produces less nausea and the come up is more gentle.

My best shroom trip was in the middle of the forest at night with a few friends.
we got a fire going and then poked holes in the top of glow sticks and everyone got a different colour, we had a battle till everyone and everything was glowing. It's one of my favourite memories ever
It sucks because I would really like to try psychedelics like shrooms or peyote cacti, but I'm pretty scared because my mother isn't psycholigically stable (triggered by the death of her daughter/my sister), probably schizophrenia but I'm not quite sure.
I'm scared that strong psychedelics might trigger a psychosis in the case if I inherited somethin, especially because I suffer severe depression, but at the same time I'm very curious about the effects and want to experience them myself.
I probably shouldn't touch that stuff at all, but I'm not really a rational person I guess.
