Isis has claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack in Russia that injured eight people, the group's Amaq news agency has said.
A man was shot dead by police after knifing people apparently at random in the Siberian city of Surgut on Saturday morning. Russian authorities earlier declined to comment on whether the incident was being treated as a terrorist attack and were said to be keeping an open mind about the attacker's motive.
The state-owned RIA Novosti agency said two people were in critical condition in hospital.
"A man was running along the main streets stabbing people", the TASS news agency reported. There were initially fears of a second attacker, but police later said he was acting alone.
Detectives were treating the stabbings, which happened at about 11.20am local time, as attempted murder.
Surgut, with a population of about 320,000, is an oil- and gas-producing centre 2,100km (1,300 miles) north-east of Moscow.
The stabbings came two days after 14 people were killed in Spain by terrorists who mowed down pedestrians in Barcelona and Cambrils in a van and a car.

Meanwhile Russian authorities say it's not a terrorist attack and all of the state owned tv channels (basically 99% of tv channels) has ignored this topic almost completely.
It is common for Isis to claim it is behind international terror attacks, even if they have been carried out by so-called “lone wolves” with no conclusive links to the group's members in Syria and Iraq.
Though I don't doubt it was an act of radicalism, and therefore an act of terror, we've seen several terrorist organizations claim responsibility for attacks they had no hand in before. Sometimes several at the same time. They're PR candies for them. So I'll take claims from ISIS with a chunk of salt until there's hard evidence of them having any links with the perp.

Even if it was not ISIS it's still fucking incredible that state media has ignored this topic almost completely.
"Workplace Violence."
I bet Russian high command will be overjoyed about the opportunity to level some ISIS held shed with a FOAB or something.

It's not good for Putin's ratings.

It makes your country look lazy and weak if a terrorist from a third world country can manage a terrorist attack on your land. Why would Russia want to cover it before they're even sure it's a legit ISIS attack?

Even if that were the case it's a smart move on their part. It doesn't publicize their actions, thus giving more coverage to their cause and more fear of it happening. Terrorism only works if the people are afraid, and in some instances of they don't know then it's like it never happened.
