Defence officials in Portugal say they are compiling a list of weapons and ammunition stolen from the national armoury in a brazen daytime raid. The Portuguese Army and the Defence Ministry say hand grenades, 9 mm ammunition and perhaps other weapons were stolen from the arsenal, which had no electronic surveillance and was guarded by military patrols. Officials said Friday they won’t provide further details until the military police have concluded an investigation.
http://nationalpost.com/news/world/grenades-ammo-stolen-in-daring-raid-at-portugal-army-depot/wcm/4bacc433-556d-49dd-ad2b-53083854fa07 https://ionline.sapo.pt/570460 1450 9mm cartridges 22 Yarn bobbins for traction activation 1 Release Trigger 24 Inert multidimensional lateral traction triggers 6 Tear gas hand grenades CS / MOD M7 10 Tear gas hand grenades CM Anti-riot M / 968 2 Triplex CS tear gas hand grenades 90 M321 Offensive Hand Grenades 30 M962 Offensive Hand Grenades 30 M321 offensive hand grenades (in court - for instruction) 44 66mm anti-tank rocket M72A3 - M / 986 LAW 264 Plastic explosive units PE4A 30 CCD10 (Cutting Load) 57 CCD20 (Cutting Load) fifteen CCD30 (Cutting Load) 60 IKS Initiators 30.5 KSL films (Blast film) :goodjob:
24 Inert multidimensional lateral traction triggers
Incase the baddie fled to another dimension and you need to fuck their shit up. welp, after googling it I think I'm in the FBI database now.
1450 rounds of 9mm is nothing, the M72s, plastic explosives and cutting loads are a lot more to be consderned about.
1450 rounds is more than enough for a mass shooting
1450 rounds is more than enough for a mass shooting
The more than a hundred missing grenades and rocket launchers and several hundred units of plastic explosives are orders of magnitude more worrying than some 9mm missing

Does the EU have any sort of protocols for ensuring that this doesn't spread/get transported to neighboring countries?
1450 rounds is more than enough for a mass shooting
Mass shootings are going to be limited by the amount of mags the shooter can carry. Even if they can carry 20 mags on their person (which would look like a suicide vest made of magazines), that's only about 300 rounds.
How fucking inept are these patrols? Does the EU have any sort of protocols for ensuring that this doesn't spread/get transported to neighboring countries?
Of course it does, everyone in NATO and even Interpol were informed immediately.
Of course it does, everyone in NATO and even Interpol were informed immediately.
I don't think "Of course it does" has any place in a thread about 44 antitank rockets being stolen. I was half expecting this to be "Oh we just noticed there's been a hole in that fence for a week now"
El robo sólo fue descubierto cuando una de las patrullas militares que efectúa rondas de vigilancia por el perímetro descubrió que parte de la verja que rodea las instalaciones había sido destruida. ->The robbery was noticed after one of the military patrols watching over the perimeter found that part of the fence surrounding the facilities had been destroyed
(Spanish source)
Jesus, how did our soldiers fuck up this badly? Also,i did not know they stole M72 LAW's.Hell, whoever stole all this material is gearing up for a bloody war.But probably it will all just be sold off in the black market.A big payday to the fuckers.

Although it is thought that the assault could have taken place on Wednesday, the Luso Army acknowledges not being able to confirm the exact moment in which the operation would have been carried out.
:why:
A perfect heist as always, good work boys. Payment will arrive in the usual manner, plus a small bonus for the continued performance. These arms will further the project along at an express rate thanks to the quality and number provided. I will contact you again in the future to expand our horizons together, I look forward to our continued success. [editline]2nd July 2017[/editline] No but in all honesty this is an absolute embarrassment for how poorly protected these munitions were, and the damage that could be caused is colossal in scale. You have at least 10 good mobile truck bombs waiting to happen with the sheer number of explosives they have at hand. The handgun ammo is like a joke in comparison to the rest of the munitions, not to mention how terrifying it would be to have lunatics with their hands on LAW's.
How fucking inept are these patrols? Does the EU have any sort of protocols for ensuring that this doesn't spread/get transported to neighboring countries?
Nope. EU's open border policy makes arms smuggling/trafficking easy. Loadsa people just pickup shipments in the Balkans, Ukraine, or otherwise and just toss it into the trunk of their vehicle and drive it to their home country where they sell the weapons.
People are scared that this might end up in extremists hands, but this sounds a bit more organized than a bunch of ISIS dickwads snatching the stuff for some bad shit. Ofc it could all end up in their hands, but I guess it would be less likely.
Maybe the guards were bribed to turn a blind eye so that the weapons would be "stolen", wouldn't surprise me with all the corruption here :tinfoil:
We had six LAWs stlen anout ten years back. They're still missing.
Usually something like this points to an inside job. They must have had someone who knew where and what was stored, as well as the blind spots and common patrol routes. Unless it was purely dumb luck that they happened to find the right store with all of that in it, and have all the time to move it, I find it highly unlikely that they didn't have some sort of help from someone who had knowledge of the bases inner workings.
Now the question is, where are all those munitions going to end up?

Most armories typically are their own little contained unit with cameras, more barbed wire and safe locked doors or doors with only one key. This goes double for explosive, so how the hell could any criminal, even experienced ones managed running away with all this shit. Patrol routes don't even matter when they keep the place lit up and in view of a duty. Granted this is our SOP and not theirs.

If you've got a man on the inside, especially one with some access, you can get just about anywhere.
Authorities caught a portuguese spy selling NATO info to a russian spy in Italy last year, one person on the inside is enough to cause trouble
Authorities caught a portuguese spy selling NATO info to a russian spy in Italy last year, one person on the inside is enough to cause trouble
Spies spying on spies, that is some ultra-weird shit.
More or less, but they had guards patrolling? How the fuck didn't they report anything?
i don't know how it is in the military but i know pretty much everywhere else if someone looks like they're supposed to be there then there's no need to question it
I've only seen one military magazine in my life but they didn't have guards on it. Just a double layer of razor wire, motion sensors and cameras plus the bunker itself.
Well at least they didn't 'misplace' nuclear weapons like the USA and USSR sometimes did
1450 rounds is more than enough for a mass shooting
Fuck I probably have that much just in my sock drawer. (.22s of coarse, 9mm is too expensive for my taste and needs)
Fuck I probably have that much just in my sock drawer. (.22s of coarse, 9mm is too expensive for my taste and needs)
I've probably got about that much totaled up between the 9mm, 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO.
I've probably got about that much totaled up between the 9mm, 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO.
Yeah, huh. Well I have around 12,000 airsoft rounds lads. Clear winner here <<< I'm calling inside job on this anyway, a hole in the fence is pretty fucking obvious and to take that amount of munitions it would indeed take a long time. I can't think of any other explanation
Fuckers were probably doing a stealth build on Normal, i'd like to see them try this on Overkill. [editline]3rd July 2017[/editline] On a serious note: sounds like inside deal
