Report: New Tribes Game Possibly Being Worked On By Hi-Rez, Trademarked "Tribes Royale"
It seems that Georgia-based development team, Hi-Rez Studios, developers of Smite and Paladins, is working on their own twist on the battle royal genre if recent trademark registrations is to be believed. The studio has registered “Tribes Royale” a few weeks ago, and if this comes to reality, could be big since not only is Hi-Rez Studios working on a battle royale game, but also reviving their Tribes IP.
Oh goody, it's time for everyone to jump on the battle royale train. I will give them that the concept of a Tribes Battle Royale game could be interesting if all the normal movement mechanics are retained, but I have no faith in Hi-Rez not pulling a, well, Tribes: Ascend.
it could also just be set in france
Well I'm intrigued, I can see how it works and I think it'd be a pretty cool concept for Tribes.
Ideally I'd want them to package this with Tribes Ascend instead of making it a separate game. Tribes 1 and 2 used to have a diverse array of game modes and I'd like to see the series return to form rather than be fragmented.
I look forward to the mobile game Tribes Royale.
By the time it's ready to be played by the public, the battle royale craze will have already died out and everyone will be playing a new game
I'm betting on livestreamed competitive rhythm games where new songs and outfits are unlocked through lootboxes

Rumour has it that the international version is called A Quarter Pounder with Tribes.
How about they hand the IP over to someone who gives a crap about tribes and I'll be excited.

Je suis le meilleur!
if for a moment they are going the battle royale gametype then ah yes truly when i think of Tribes, the game about high-octane and fast action of capturing flags and taunting others, i think of some 50-100 people dropping into a map finding shitty rifles to shoot someone.
Look ill be straight up, if they just took what tribes ascend was on release and made it a massive open map with battle royale mechanics I would play the ever living fuck out of it, rounds would be so much faster given how quick you can move around.
Blue plate special for days
Oh gee I can't wait to play for a full year until it get's abandoned like every single one of their projects so far.
[sp] If it's gonna be free i'd play it cause I'm desperate for a Tribes-like game[/sp]

I'd rather pay $30 for a tribes game if it means that we wouldn't have to deal with microtransactions
Well, this is one more reason to hope really hard that Midair doesn't flop and die on release.

Yeah, it's a shame that Smite and Paladins are dead and are getting zero support.
Wait.

Yeah, it's a shame about Tribes Ascend and Global Agenda.

Really they're model with each game is that you pay $15-30 to get all of the gameplay effecting content and some bonus shit. Works out fine for me imo.

Two flops that bleed a lot of money. And they returned to tribes ascend later and began providing some updates.
Really the worst thing was the lack of proper communication regarding tribes.

The worst thing was removing fun for the sake of E-sports based balance. Primarily introducing flag drag killed any incentive to GO FAST, and matchmaking was an issue because you would get noobs paired with team sanic. Hi-Rez solution was to slow down team sanic with drag and it was just overall unfun.
The first 8 words of this headline were really exciting.

Also making vehicles, especially shrikes more and more useless because people didn't realize you could shoot them down with pretty much any weapon, so they seemed OP.
When it came out I would get 40-50 kills, only dying when i needed to reset the combo multiplier thing or get back to base quickly, and still had the majority of our team's captures because no one would bother trying to shoot at me, except for at most one doombringer who could easily be countered by occasionally flying behind a hill. If Hi-Rez had done something as simple as a tip in the loading screen about shooting down shrikes it would have done more to counter them than all their nerfs.

hi-rez is full of sandrakers
I've never played tribes, but I play Paladins and hi-rez seems to keep fucking it up but I have too much invested in it to quit. I'll probably pass on this. I'm not really a fan of BR. I got sick of fortnite in like a week.
I have to say, Tribes' movement system could suit a BR gamemode pretty well. It eliminates the worst part of every BR game ever made - walking forever with little to do. Because in Tribes, just moving is fun. Some matches of T:A, I wouldn't even shoot people, I'd just zoom around the maps and try to soar as high as I could.
Why hi-rez, there people outside (like me) that are still suffering on how tribes ascend died, [VGS].
Tribes died because it wasn't making enough money to sustain itself. Yes, it failed because of bad choices Hi-Rez made, but it wasn't something unexpected nor anything that hasn't happened with other developers in other games. Tribes is too much of a niche game to work well as a free to play game. (And just in case: No, just because Tribes was everywhere for a while doesn't mean it was doing well, memes don't pay the bills)
Also you people can't keep on pretending that every game Hi-Rez has made after Tribes doesn't exist, or was abandoned nor that the updates that came out a year and half ago never happened. You like it or not, both Smite and Paladins are doing well enough (at least for now.) and have been for years, and there is multiple other small projects along with those two. Saying that "they abandon every game they make after a year" and "they've abandoned most of their games" is simply not true. You don't see me going into denial on World of Warcraft's success just because it shat all over warcraft's lore and ruined any chances of a future warcraft RTS game, that would make 0 sense.
It's been 4 years, its about time you come to terms with reality. If you don't want to forgive anything you don't have to, just move on. You have to admit this whole thing is getting/is already dumb.
Now for the actual topic: (If true) Yeh, its pretty much an attempt at cashing on on the battle royale fad. I'm not into that kind of games so I probably won't be playing it.
It would be much easier to forgive Hi-Rez if not for the fact that every game they've made after Tribes was an attempt at riding a fad.
if they fuck this one up too at least I'm still gonna still be able to ski on the mountain of my frozen tears this winter
I loved Tribes Ascend so fucking much. This looks like a shitty cash grab.

The worst (best?) thing is, they're actually pretty good at riding fads. Paladins isn't half-bad for a hero shooter, and last I heard, Smite is a pretty entertaining MOBA. I'd love to see them condense that skill into a more refined, unique game like Tribes Ascend instead of going for the cash grabs, but this new project is the best compromise we're going to get. They can ride the hype train and inject classic Tribes gameplay into it at the same time - just hope they don't fuck up balance or microtransactions
