Russia has been banned from the 2018 Paralympic Games, officials announced Monday, refusing to lift a ban because of what they called an insufficient recovery from the Russian doping scandal. Nonetheless, those officials said, certain disabled Russian athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the coming Winter Games — a decision taken with some disagreement among top Paralympics executives, who were unanimous in their decision not to lift the ban. “What was uncovered was not a minor breach of an obligation,” Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee, said at a news conference in Bonn, Germany on Monday. “This was an orchestrated attack on the integrity of sport.” Justifying the continued ban, Mr. Parsons pointed to Russian officials’ lacking cooperation with global sports regulators as well as their failure to acknowledge the evidence of systematic cheating laid out nearly two years ago.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/29/sports/paralympics-russia-doping.html
What's the point of doping the paralympics? It's like pretending to be handicapped and entering... Oh wait
Watch Icarus on Netflix if you haven't, shits insane. Documentary about a doping turns into international incident halfway through and probably resulted in these bans. They think some of the paralympic athletes (some blind weightlifters) were doped without their knowledge.
People who cheat the para/special olympics should really be ashamed of themselves
Gotta really bust your balls to get that bronze medal sometimes, even if it means doping.
People who cheat the para/special olympics should really be ashamed of themselves
Nah, I think regular shame is fine. They're still disabled so their shame factor gets reduced to one from two. If you cheat in the Paralympics it's a shame factor of two because you're cheating against disabled people, but if you're disabled yourself you reduce that value in half because you're on a level playing field before you actually cheat.
Everyones gone balls to the wall on the russian witchhunt with the reveal of their state-run doping program, but its interesting, not a single person has asked, if the russians are doping at that level, what are the people and countries who are beating them doing? Because even at sochi, supposedly the height of sophistication for their doping program, they got blown out in quite a few events. Norway, Canada and the US all came away with more total medals than the Russians, with Canada and Norway taking home 10 and 11 golds respectively, compared to US and Russia's 9.
You don't have to be a cheater to beat a cheater.

It's not that Russia's the only country to cheat - they're just worse at it than others by virtue of getting caught.

Before, they had 13 gold medals and 33 total medals.
NO that's just their medicine
