MEXICO CITY — On the anniversary of its deadly 1985 earthquake, Mexico City again shook with terrifying horse on Tuesday, as a 7.1-magnitude temblor damaged buildings, knocked out power and caused alarm throughout the capital. Just a couple of hours after a siren signaled an annual drill for this earthquake-prone city, the ground began to shake, walls buckled and residents fled into the streets. There were reports of fires and gas leaks and people possibly trapped in rubble. The scope of the damage or possible casualties was not immediately clear. The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the quake was 76 miles southeast of the capital, in the state of Puebla.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/strong-earthquake-shakes-mexico-damaging-buildings-and-causing-panic/2017/09/19/d2b044f6-9d6a-11e7-b2a7-bc70b6f98089_story.html http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-mexico-city-earthquake-20170919-story.html (Pasted wrong title, edited)
Wapo article has the death toll at 65.
Some reports say that they've had to cut gas supply across the entire city, due to the fires getting too dangerous for the rescatists and the people trapped under the rubble. There are also many gas leaks. Some first aid responders are advising people to not make any kind of fire as they rush from one site to another.
Media has reported at least 72 dead now :frown:
Earth hates humanity right now
Scary stuff. I lived in Atlixco, the big city just to the north of the epicenter, for about 6 months back in 2004ish. I'm hearing that most of the people I knew were OK but there's a lot I just don't know. Not everyone has internet or even phones.
We are up too 140 people killed, with untold amounts of injured. It's also worth noting that this earthquake has caused Popocatepetl to start throw smoke and ash again.

But yeah, being so close to the epicenter (you can kinda see how close it is on the map I posted, top left) could lead to something worse. [editline]19th September 2017[/editline] Mexico City is on the other side of Popocatepetl from the epicenter, and most of the reports of damage and deaths are from the City. So the volcano has definitely been shaken.
Someone said a volcano just exploded. [editline]19th September 2017[/editline] http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world-news/646156/Mexico-City-Earthquake-Volcano-Popocatepetl-7-1-Death-Toll-Magnitude-Eruption Only source I got.
