Linda Hamilton is the latest name to return to the Terminator films, more than 25 years since her last appearance as the series’ robot-battling heroine Sarah Connor.
The actor’s return was announced by Terminator creator James Cameron at a private event celebrating the franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Hamilton will reprise her role as Connor in the as-yet-untitled sixth instalment of the series, which will see her reunited with Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose own appearance in Terminator 6 was confirmed earlier this year. Cameron will produce and Deadpool’s Tim Miller will direct the film, which is being treated as a direct sequel to 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and is being eyed up as the first instalment of a new trilogy.

Cameron said that he hoped Hamilton’s return as Sarah Connor would send out a message about the lack of older female actors in action films. “There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys,” he said, “but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
this is a great point that's going to be completely wasted on this movie
Omitted from the Guardian's report (via the THR llink)
Cameron is producing along with Skydance. And the new film, which will be distributed by Paramount with Fox handling it internationally, is based on a story crafted by Cameron. Cameron and Miller created a writers room to hammer out what is planned to be a trilogy that can stand as single movies or form an overarching story. David Goyer, whose credits include the Blade and Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies; Charles Eglee, who created Dark Angel with Cameron; Josh Friedman, who created the Terminator TV spinoff, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Justin Rhodes, a frequent Goyer collaborator, were part of that room.
Why wasn't she in any Terminators after 2? Is it because she knew they'd be shit?
I don't know, making it about Sarah Conner again might bring some new light into the movie, but after what Genesys did, both spoiling the fucking movie and making a spoiled movie, I don't have any hope. If Arnold couldn't save it this is the only other thing I can think that would.
Why wasn't she in any Terminators after 2? Is it because she knew they'd be shit?
she did have a cameo in Salvation on the audio tape that John listens to

and i hope to shit this is the last damn Terminator movie, and i hope it's not total schlock so the series can go out with a firecracker instead of a fizz
First scene Sarah Connor wakes up
"Oh fuck that was a shit series of dreams, wouldn't recommend watching any of them. Anyway, Terminator 2 just finished and now here we are"

Salvation was weird but between the three most recent Terminator films its the one I'd be most inclined to watch. T3 was mediocre, T4 wasn't bad but kinda missed the point, and T5 was so hilariously awful I enjoy talking about how awful it is.

The way you phrase it it's like T4 and Salvation are different films, and for a moment i imagined some chinesse exclusive movie we never heard of.
Can't wait for the Terminator/Avatar crossover.
im not crazy here in thinking there were no good terminator movies after 2 right
the success of 3 and onward baffles me
I have a lot riding on this Cameron :v:, DON'T FUCK IT UP AGAIN.

I honestly thought Genisys was better then Salvation
I found it more enjoyable.
I honestly thought Genisys was better then Salvation

T3 had some good action scenes, but ultimately it was a T3 clone with an ending that fucked T2 over. It's like the writers went; "remember how in T2 you thought they would fail in stopped judgement day, and then they didn't and it made you feel good, well we're doing the opposite here and Arnold's death scene isn't as meaningful"
Genisys was fucking terrible in every way. I still think Salvation was a decent movie. It had a decent cast, action and sets. Dont know how people can like Gen more than Salvation.

Terminator, much like Alien, only has 2 good films.

I mean there were a few of them in Fury Road. The female lead was older than the male lead of the film. Plus the really old ladies who are honestly quite badass for the short time they're in.

There's probably a script for it floating around on Archive Of Our Own.
Also, I hope this one finally hits the mark. The filmmakers have a lot to learn from Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genesis. And if the series go out on a "half are good" note, that'd be the best we can hope for.

With Rise of the Machines, I think it was people still riding on the coat-tails of Judgement Day being amazing.
With Salvation, I... I don't know, actually. I guess maybe the allure of a movie set during the war against the Machines, overriding the bad taste left by Rise of the Machines?
As for Genesys however, this was around the time that the Chinese started acquiring a taste for American movies, wasn't it? If so, I hypothesise that the "success" of Genesys may have been inflated by Chinese action movie-goers who only care about the action.
Which while I morally have to appreciate reaching different cultures, personally I think we should do away with such pandering if it impacts the overall quality of future movies. All of these movies vying to be one of the few American movies that China chooses to import leaves a lot of tish in its wake chasing the weak but voluminous yuan.
Seriously, at the time of writing 6.57 yuan equals 1 dollar, and 8.9 yuan equals 1 pound. And apparently the yuan's been getting weaker recently.
"we're gonna get it right again someday"

The last terminator movie wasn't terrible.
Salvation was probably my favorite terminator since T2.
The other movies were balls.
The last terminator movie wasn't terrible.
did we watch the same movie
The last terminator movie wasn't terrible.
The only good things about the film is that Daenerys makes an okay Sarah Connor and looks good as a brunette. Other than that the movie was just money-grabbing schlock that spent more time trying to justify old Arnold and creating a new start for sequels that it just became a mess. John Connor not only coming to the past but also turning out to be a terminator would have been an interesting twist had it not been spoiled in the trailers.

Rise of the Machines' redeeming factor is the ending in that Judgement Day was inevitable. Personally, I liked Salvation because we finally got to see the Human-Machine War first hand and showed Connor becoming the legend he is (or to become? Time travel, man...). Moreover, it was the future, but things were had changed with the new Terminator model. However, Worthington being a Terminator was, once again, spoiled in trailers and could have made an interesting (or predictable) twist. I don't get why they feel the need to spoil who's a Terminator...
Sad thing is, in general, Hollywood doesn't care about quality of films as long as it sells [in China, especially].
Ffs just let it die

Alien 3: Assembly Cut is a good movie.

aged pretty well too
With the way they handled the last one it seems like they could make as many as they wanted in the same time period and not give a shit about anything that's happened before.
it's worth mentioning this film is meant to kickstart a new trilogy of terminator films
just like genisys was meant to before it fell flat
and just like terminator salvation was meant to before it also fell flat
so basically if this one also fails we'll have a consecutive trilogy of failed-trilogy-starter terminators. they could bundle them all together and sell them as the "terminator embarrassment collection" what a deal!!

it honestly annoys the shit out of me that signourney weaver is still doing action movies and stuff but shes no longer playing a cool action hero. she plays mainly what i call "the villain bitch"
like every movie now shes the bad guy who wears a suit and talks down to the protags instead of running and gunning hardcore.
we need more cool ladies

She was the resistance head in that Oats Studios short for Blomkamp. I can't think of anything else recent tho.
