He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself. Can't wait for more.
Seen the pilot Sunday and I also really liked the show.
I liked it because it's not trying to be a ~prestige drama~ like everything else these days. Like Pacific Rim, it knows what it's about and tries to deliver the best it can do without trying to be something it's not. And I love it for that. A quote from a review that describes what I feel in regards to this show:
Well guess what, The Strain isn't serious, but it is smart and innovative for exactly that reason. FX is going way off-brand with this one; in a time when prestige cable dramas are all the rage, yet so few shows are actually worthy of the distinction, The Strain appears to be the beginning of a backlash toward fancypants cable series. It's like walking into your local dive bar to see your professor playing bass in a '70s-inspired psych-rock band with his tie, once a symbol of authority, wrapped around his head. FX is letting its hair down and taking its shirt off with The Strain, and dammit, that's awfully refreshing.
Love how the old man makes me think of an old [sp]Van Helsing[/sp].
oh shit this finally premiered? i have to go watch it now.
Is this a comedy or a serious type show? Im confused by these reviews.
The image in the OP made me gag.
Is this a comedy or a serious type show? Im confused by these reviews.
You can consider it a serious show, but it's clear that Guillermo del Toro isn't afraid to make it pretty goofy.
this looks cool but why is the Heroes logo in her eye in the poster?
Also love the clues you can find in the show about the [sp]eclipse[/sp].
Well I watched the first episode. I give it a solid 8/10. It may get a higher score, but at the moment its just a whole lot of whats going on.
The new episode was ok. The child actor is surprisingly good though.
Finally watched the first episode. Pretty solid episode. Hopefully the rest of the season will be as good or better.
Is [sp]The cool old guy is he supposed to be Van Helsing?[/sp]
no. [editline]23rd July 2014[/editline] really enjoyed the first two episodes.
Is this a comedy or a serious type show? Im confused by these reviews.
This show is hilariously inept, but I don't know if it qualifies as a comedy, unintentional comedy maybe.
I could sue del Toro, because my average bathroom episode is called The Strain
holy shit the german vampire guy is the nazi that got brained by the Bear Jew in Inglourious Basterds
i always thought he could play nosferatu
Episode 7 was tonight, the show is really getting good!
Those special forces though.
Well this show pretty much broke my expectations; Was expecting sneaky badguys doing sneaky things for at least the first season, got impending epidemic and economic collapse.
I'm digging it. The pilot was a bit crap, but its quickly picked up from there and gotten better with each episode. The only thing I don't like is Del Toro can't seem to resist falling for some typical TV series tropes. I also wish it was a bit darker in tone, some of the comic relief seems out of place and often its obvious I'm watching a "TV" series. I haven't read the novel series so I don't know the source material, but I'm hoping he doesn't start dalliance with the supernatural too much and keeps it grounded in reality.
The maid's daughter [sp]got wrecked[/sp]
The latest episode was great. [sp] Vampire Death Squad hunting vampires [/sp]
Anyone else read the books?
Episode 8 tonight was great! [sp] about time the exterminator met the old man, I had a feeling he would be his protege. And I didn't think Jim would really get shot that quick! [/sp]
The show keeps getting better with every episode.
What a shame, [sp]I liked Jim[/sp]
What a shame, [sp]I liked Jim[/sp]
Yeah I am surprised that happened.
