The Texas state dish is chili, its tree is the pecan and its fish is the Guadalupe bass. And soon, Texas may have an explosive addition to its set of official symbols: plans are afoot for a state gun. Though Texas lawmakers through the years have seen fit to designate dozens of symbols, including an official pollinator (the western honey bee), cooking implement (the cast-iron Dutch oven) and shell (the lightning whelk), they have not yet given the seal of approval to a weapon, despite the state’s famous fondness for arms.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/09/texas-official-state-gun-cannon :terrists:
That has to be a old six shooter, im not even from the US but thats the first gun i imagine when i think texas

I do like the suggestion of the Bowie knife however. I guess the Colt works as well though, which is the one they're suggesting for the state pistol, it's a six shooter (although it's massive compared to Bonnie's who used a snub nose) [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/1847Colt_Walker.jpg[/t]
if they choose something other than the colt walker, they chose wrong
Didn't they already do this? I thought they chose a Barrett. [editline]10th April 2017[/editline] nevermind, read article. That's Tennessee.
Wow, some of the other states at least picked something classic that played a role in history so this official gun shtick is at least a little bit tasteful but Tennessee picked the Barret M82. What a bunch of hicks. I don't know what to expect from Texas. Could be a revolver but my first thought was a flintlock rifle like what would have been used at the Alamo. edit: I guess it is important to the state. Didn't know that

It's an iconic weapon, every single person on (edit: the) planet can look at an M82 and go "yeah that's a Barrett." If Tenny was to designate any state firearm it'd have to be that one. Lay off the judging huh? Texas will almost certainly designate the Colt Walker as our state gun due to its history with the Texas Rangers.

I mean, it's pretty much a staple of movies! It is to guns what something like a Charger is to the image of American Muscle cars.

They would really have to design something truly unique to be noteworthy.
colt dragoon/walker or bust, it is the texas gun.
That's kind of cool, I wonder what New Jersey's state gun would be. Probably a nerf gun because it's the only legal firearm we're allowed to have (so far, would not be surprised if they outlawed those too)

It should probably be the "Come and Take it" cannon if anything
Texas can't use Colt revolvers. They were all designed, manufactured, and assembled in Hartford Connecticut. Your state gun has to be from your state, no cheating now Texas.
Texas can't use Colt revolvers. They were all designed, manufactured, and assembled in Hartford Connecticut. Not to mention that Utah's state gun is the Model 1911, though designed by Browning was built exclusively by Colt.
I was hoping they would go old west like something that Bonnie and Clyde used.
So, a Browning Automatic Rifle? Bonnie and Clyde were depression-era gangsters known for breaking into National Guard armories and stealing BARs leftover from WW1. Not exactly "old west".

I'm sure there would be some debate over it by people who are more into the history of firearms than myself.
I'll have to take your word for it.
If it had been designed during World War 1, it would have been called an anti-tank rifle. Modern tank armor laughs at anything smaller than a missile or another tank round though, so we call it an anti-materiel rifle. You use it to take out cars, trucks, lightly-armored vehicles, weapon emplacements, enemies behind light cover and the like. It's massive, heavy as fuck, kicks like Everclear and sounds like a small cannon. Not as bad as the M2 Browning Machine Gun the cartridge was originally designed for, but it's still large enough for me to think of it as a crew-served, rather than individual weapon.
i hope minnesota gets one probably the desert eagle
California's official gun is a sticky note that reads "plz don't hurt me"
California's official gun is a sticky note that reads "plz don't hurt me"
Not even a Hi Point C9?
Not even a Hi Point C9?
That's the unofficial state gun considering the people likely to own it aren't the kind to own it legally.
Model 29 would be cool.
I'll have to take your word for it.
Probably better known to our generation as the Barret .50 Cal that was massively popularized by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A more recent (and slightly more authentic) representation can be seen in Battlefield 4 as a power weapon.
i hope minnesota gets one probably the desert eagle
Yeah I saw that some are made in Minneapolis, but when I looked for the address on google maps it seems the location no longer exists and is an auto body shop instead. So either they are hiding the location or the no longer make them here.
