• Kentucky Coal Mining Museum converts to solar power
The Kentucky Coal Mining Museum in Benham is owned by Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College. Communications Director Brandon Robinson told WYMT, they're hoping to save money by the switch. "We believe that this project will help save at least eight to ten thousand dollars, off the energy costs on this building alone, so it's a very worthy effort and it's going to save the college money in the long run," said Robinson. The work began Tuesday to power the energy, not by coal, but by the sun. "It is a little ironic," said Robinson, "But you know, coal and solar and all the different energy sources work hand-in-hand. And, of course, coal is still king around here." Robinson said the project was funded through an outside foundation. It cost thousands of dollars, but Tre Sexton, the owner of the company installing the panels, believes the result will pay for itself.
Source

Looking it up, Kentucky offers a 12c/kWhr subsidy for solar. That's higher than the price of electricity in most of the US.

I guess using renewable energy to power a coal mining museum is a sign of progress, so long as coal mining is exclusively featured in museums eventually.
We had a democratic house, Senate, and governor for several years in Kentucky, that's why we have these subsidies. I wish Conway hadn't thrown the election as hard as Hillary did.
That is...rather surprising. I wonder why? Not that I'm upset about that.
It's called an incentive. Government wants people to get on solar so they're literally paying people to do it
A museum is the only place coal belongs.
A museum is the only place coal belongs.
I'd prefer if they just left it in the ground to be honest.
A museum is the only place coal belongs.
No it belongs in oil refineries for coal liquefaction processing.
it belongs in senator hands so they can bring it into the house
