One person has been killed and 15 others injured in a shooting at the Cameo Night Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A "dispute" between several men escalated into a gunfight in the crowded venue, Police Chief Eliot Isaac said.
A 27-year-old man died in the incident, which occurred early on Sunday.
There was no indication the shooting was terrorism-related, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said at a news conference.
He went on: "However, to the victims, what difference does it make?"
Police Chief Isaac said a "couple of hundred people" were inside the "very large establishment" when the incident occurred.
"Several local men got into some kind of dispute inside the bar and it escalated into shots being fired from several individuals," he said.
The police chief said that despite security checks, several firearms had been brought into the nightclub. Investigators are still trying to identify the shooters.

(CNN)They came for a night of music and dancing. They left by fleeing past wounded clubgoers lying on a bloody floor.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday at the packed Cameo Night Club in Cincinnati, the hip-hop DJ called for security over and over, one man recalled later.
Four off-duty police officers were outside in the parking lot.
To get in, clubgoers had been searched with an electronic wand to detect hidden weapons.
Still, the witness told CNN affiliate WLWT that he heard about 20 gunshots in the club.
One person was killed and 15 wounded. Police said several people had been able to sneak guns into the club and they believe more than one person was involved in the shooting. They said it might have developed from a dispute that started earlier in the day.
The shooting was not related to terrorism, authorities said.
Police identified the slain man as O'Bryan Spikes, 27.
Several victims were undergoing surgery, Cincinnati Police Sgt. Eric Franz told CNN Sunday morning. Police do not have any suspects in custody but are interviewing witnesses.

With all the shootings in the US, my fear mongering takes over and assumes it's part of an ISIS supporter attack or some crazy fuck who wants to go out by killing others.
I mean if it's commonplace in the US I don't really see why terrorism being the motivator makes matters any worse. The result is the same either way.
Someone should make a gun control debate thread so we don't have to ruin threads like these with heated discussion which has no place to vent elsewhere.

you're the first to bring it up though
Could try an experiment, every time someone else brings it up, just quote Smoove's post and reply with nothing else
I'm actually interested to see if it works, and what kind of debate these topics bring without gun law yammering
Also, anything special about the nightclub to support the terrorism angle vs. the clientele? The articles don't say anything so I assume it's just a 'regular' one.

We tried that, it was called Mass Debate, it sucked. The end.
On topic: This sucks. I hope it's not terror-related, and I hope as few people as possible dies. I'm most interested in the motive (or lack there of.) Looking up the Cameo Nightclub shows that it's a stripclub. While we're in the midst of Terror-attacks world wide, there's always been a bit of magnetism between "nightclubs" like these and organized crime, which sometimes leads to shootings or even shootouts.
We've got to remember that ISIS and it's affiliates are not the only people in the world capable of doing bad things to lots of people at once. There are plenty of potential motives for violence like this, and it's entirely impossible to completely prevent things like this from occurring in a nation as large and complex as the United States.

Cincinnati has a bit of a history of gun violence and racial tensions, especially downtown. I remember being in highschool and being told not to go downtown at night because I'd be robbed and probably shot for being white. Someone might try to claim this as a terrorist thing but I doubt its actually one.
Good thing it wasn't terrorism, otherwise it would be cause for concern.

Yeah I don't get the "hope it wasn't terrorism" posts.

Good thing they probably didn't mean that the event was totally innocuous, otherwise I'd doubt your ability to detect tone.
Like me, they're probably trying to get more information on the nature of the incident and probably expressing hope that these recent attacks aren't proving to be a small part of a much larger chain.
Yeah I don't get the "hope it wasn't terrorism" posts.
Because if it turns out to be the work of Islamic fundamentalists,Trump can point his pudgy little finger and shout "Look! See? This happened 'cause you're letting those kinds of people in!"

It's gotten a lot better in recent years actually. Even places like Over-The-Rhine have become much safer, more generally. Granted, this can be attributed more to gentrification more than it can be to anything else I think. Still hard to shake that reputation though.
Updated with current info.

Basically if it was a guy claiming he's acting for ISIS it provides ammo to the idea that muslim people, immigrants or no, are some kind of major threat to western society. I can see why one might dislike the idea that people are using a tragedy like this for political angling, but it's going to happen either way, really. I remember the shooting in Quebec recently where rumor spread quick that a Muslim guy who'd fled from the police in a severely stressed panic after witnessing the shooting was the shooter and /pol/ was having this "I told you so" victory lap until it was revealed that the real shooter was a white guy that followed Marine Le Pen and Donald Trump and they called conspiracy.
I'm sure part of it is pure "gotcha" political spite, but groups like ISIS do terrible things because they want people to hate muslims so the west shuns them and they can draw more and more into their ranks. We're seeing right now that on some level, that works. If a shooting is a terrorist attack rather than gang crime or something it feeds more into the current volatile political climate and racial/cultural tensions and people don't want that, as cold and heartless as it probably sounds to be relieved on some level when it isn't.
Except the article already says it erupted from a despite between two groups of people. I'm more inclined to think it's gang related.
I'm more surprised that Ohio has a nightclub
