Five jars of baby food were found contaminated with ethylene glycol, a sweet-tasting chemical that can be lethal to adults as well as babies. The unnamed suspect, believed to be in his fifties, sent an email to several supermarket and pharmacy chains in the city of Friedrichshafen threatening to poison more than 20 different foodstuffs unless he was paid a ransom of at least €10m (£8.8m). The email said he had already poisoned five jars of baby food as proof the threat was serious. Police raced to remove all baby food from the shelves across the city and were able to track down the five contaminated jars before they could be sold.[/QUOTE] What a piece of shit, I hope they find this prick and charge him at the minimum with attempted murder.
whoa this is unbelievable, i don't think i've ever seen something as deliberately fucked up as this
They already got him. They sent out the (crystal clear) store surveillance camera photo last week and got a few leads from the public. I think it was only reported on Saturday, but they arrested a suspect on Friday, got a confession, raided his home (found evidence there), found matching DNA evidence on the poisoned baby food containers, and retrieved a laptop from a garbage bin (that apparently also has evidence?).
i dont understand the idea behind this i mean stores would make a massive net loss but they could as a precaution just order new baby food and completely disregard the ransom i have a feeling im missing some specific detail

It was also placed directly into the store's shelf, so there was a time frame where customers are at risk.

The idea is that they pay the ransom and the guy tells them which ones are poison and stops poisoning the product to that specific chain.
Wow, that's both extremely disgusting and just plain stupid as fuck. Also props to the police for swift action and successfully removing the products before anything could happen.
He's gonna get fucked up.
He should never be allowed to rejoin free society again. Not to imply that he needs to be in a cell for the rest of his life. But he's too dangerous to walk free in public.
