While Bungie is at work on delivering new content to Destiny 2, it's also taking action to remove an inadvertent reference to a hate symbol. The studio announced today that it's removing an item from the game.
"It's come to our attention that a gauntlet in Destiny 2 shares elements with a hate symbol," Bungie said in a pair of tweets today. "It is not intentional. We are removing it. Our deepest apologies. This does NOT represent our values, and we are working quickly to correct this. We renounce hate in all forms." Bungie CEO Pete Parsons added in a separate message, "At Bungie, our company values place the highest emphasis on inclusion of all people and respect for all who work with us or play our games."
Bungie did not specifically call out what the item in question is, but Reddit user xxbiohazrdxx suggested it's the Hunter's Road Complex AA1. This features a logo similar to that of the flag adopted by a particular hate group.
I don't think anyone would have noticed that unless they shed attention on it.
Not a big deal either way. All it's gonna do is get the attention of 4chan, which isn't what you want.
i miss when people didnt take these things seriously
even if i'd seen the "KEK" in it (a low chance of that, i probably would've read it "IKEKI" without noticing), i don't think i'd have ever linked it to the flag version
Good imo. I'd be pretty happy with game companies removing playermade symbols that promote hate and stupid shit like that.
Good riddance, those gloves are hideous. :v:
What is hateful about this symbol?
this is fucking embarrassing. its literally the translation when an Alliance character in WoW overhears a Horde character say "lol". who the fuck links "kek" to white supremacy. why cant people just be normal instead
What is hateful about this symbol?
The same that is hateful about a green cartoon frog, I presume?
People get offended over absolutely everything these days. I guess it is a bad time to mention how 'kek' is actually a word in Dutch?
Wtf kek is a hate symbol now?
Like LeonS said, its just an obfuscated 'lol' between the horde and alliance factions.
Meanwhile, on Nintendo's Virtual Console...

No one took the alt-right seriously until they stopped looking like they were doing things ironically.
Wtf kek is a hate symbol now?
Like LeonS said, its just an obfuscated 'lol' between the horde and alliance factions.
It's not kek itself, it's the kekistan flag.
What is hateful about this symbol?
Uh, it's the fictional flag created by and for hard-right racists to identify with?
The KKK robes are a symbol for hate, and so is the flag of Kekistan
The banner’s design, in fact, perfectly mimics a German Nazi war flag, with the Kek logo replacing the swastika and the green replacing the infamous German red. Alt-righters are particularly fond of the way the banner trolls liberals who recognize its origins.

you are wildly uninformed and it's pretty sad and funny at the same time
your post is the kind of ignorant tripe i'd expect to see on a CNN report on kekistan

This reminds me of Games Workshop slowly removing Warhammer 40k imperial eagles because people outside the game thought it was a nazi reference. The lore of w40k references straight up imperialism though, and doesn't present it as a good thing : "welcome to the shittiest timeline ever" sums it up pretty well.
This on the other hand is just random shapes that vagely look like an edgelord meme they took too seriously. They are legitimising a meme spread mostly by 12 yo by doing this, and that's it, it didn't have any connection to it before they made that decision.

no im just adult enough to not take some ugly flag a bunch of losers made in their sparetime seriously. why would i ever acknowledge them? i'm sure that in their little fantasyworld 'kek' means hate but really its just an orc laughing at a dead human.

Ah yes, I see your evidenced points and retort back with a diatribe of equal quality as yours.
ahem
Nuh-uh
Don't blame bungie, blame the retards who took a simple meme like kek and turned it into a stupid symbol
KeK was a pretty funny bait meme for like 2 hours but people are basically just riding it into the ground as much as possible
[editline]12th September 2017[/editline]
it's the response to literally everything these people say
no im just adult enough to not take some ugly flag a bunch of losers made in their sparetime seriously. why would i ever acknowledge them? i'm sure that in their little fantasyworld 'kek' means hate but really its just an orc laughing at a dead human.
You do realize the flag has literally been used at hate rallies right?
And in any case, the origin of the word is completely irrelevant. Words have meaning only through people agreeing that that's what they mean. The word awful used to mean "worthy of awe" but fucking no-one uses it like that anymore. Kek hasn't fully made that transition but there's still a bigger emphasis on the alt-right than some speech from WoW...
You do realize the flag has literally been used at hate rallies right?
I meant that's a fair point, and don't get me wrong it has some pretty disgusting connotations attached to it, but the gauntlet still didn't look like it until they pointed it out. And i'm not gonna erase every buddist svastikas I see because of nazism.

I mean this is dumb but being a bunch of losers doesn't take away from the facts. These people rally and just recently was someone killed at one. When does your shitty 'meme' or whatever the fuck you think it is actually become more than 'a bunch of losers maybe joking'. I think we're past that point.
Looks like a pattern you'd see on some futuristic police officer's or security guard's uniform. Don't see any resemblance. It's like chevrons or something.
I also really hate seeing symbols that can tangentially be misconstrued as hate symbols in my violent video game about punching and shooting bad aliens in the face (and sometimes shooting my fellow Guardian in the face).
Except I don't because I'm not a moron.

anyone can choose to hold any flag at all. why are you legitimizing them by saying "yeah you do have a hate flag over there buddy."? and if people keep saying "nah kek means something else now" then shit why not take the word back again? literally do what they do, use it, but use it correctly. say kek when you want to indicate something is comedic instead of using kek as a mockery against liberals or whoever else they're targeting.
to me, that flag is just an ugly mess and should just be ignored. who cares about it other than their own? hold your own rallies against them. refurbish the flag or whatever to suit your side instead of just allowing them the satisfaction of gaining more iconic imagery. just take it away from them instead.
I hear and see Kek more relating to "Kekistan" now than I do it's origins which is weird because I was one of those people in 2005 who said "Kek" because it was literally "lol" in WoW.
Yeah it's a racist term now I guess but I still don't really remember it that way. It's silly how stupid shit gets blown up by the culture of outrage we live in today.

I think it's important to keep your head about these things.
Did you just see someone say Kek? Well, you could assume they're an avowed racist.
Or you could just not and wait and see and the world might actually be a better place for some patience having been practiced.

Not taking the alt-right seriously is how the adherents to that vile shit obtained power. People treated it as a bunch of fucking losers on the Internet making racist jokes with no foul intentions. That's not worth stopping right? It's just jokes right?
Well, "just jokes" has solidified and spread a objectively awful political ideology and given those even further right a greater sense of power. Hence why we're so suddenly seeing a massive resurgence in neo-nazi movements. They feel safe now that things like the alt-right are relatively mainstream.
This particular combination of the phrase "kek" and the iconography in use is a symbol of the alt-right. They made it, they fly that shit with pride. It needs to be fucking gone.
