Arena Brawler Battlerite launched on Steam last week and in 5 days is now the number 2 ‘top selling’ free-to-play game on Steam, topping the ‘new and trending’ list since launch. Swedish developer Stunlock Studios managed to strike just the right note with Battlerite and on Sunday 12th November it peaked to number 10, on ‘top games by current player count’ Steam list with a whopping 45,000 in-game players. At one point Battlerite reached number 3 of the most watched games on Twitch with nearly 75,000 viewers glued to their screens, beating DOTA 2 and PUBG. These numbers might not be world record breakers but demonstrate that Battlerite has found its niche in the gaming world and stands strong as yet another indie success story.
http://www.develop-online.net/press-releases/battlerite-breaks-into-the-steam-top-10/0237372 http://steamspy.com/app/504370 Absolutely nuts. Just installed the game today and played with some friends, it's pretty damn fun. Didn't even know the game existed before this, to be honest.
whoa, i played this game back in beta where it was really difficult to find a match in like april with some friends, we were all pretty sure the game was on it's way out it's such a fun game honestly
I refunded it when I played it as it wasn't my cup of tea, but it's a really well done game.
Some bigger streamer streamed it as, it was actually just a couple of TSM players as far as I remember. Nothing that big because its just temporary. Didn't play much yet because I haven't gotten the time for it but it is indeed fun from what I played. Hope they can make something out of this to keep the players. Also note that its free2play system feels very generous, as with League of Legends you have free rotation or have to buy heroes with ingame or premium currency. Now with the starter achievements and chests etc you get one random champion (besides the starter one) for free and at the time of finishing some other easy challenges etc. you will probably be able to afford one medium priced champion or like 3 low cost ones. Which makes for an easy entry and gets you fast to one you want to play without heavy grind. I think matches also give good points in general and there are daily/weekly tasks for even more. It is great.
Its a lotta fun, if youre on the fence about trying it, you definetly should
I was baffled for a moment, I thought it was talking about Battleborne
I was baffled for a moment, I thought it was talking about Battleborne
Battleborn breaking in to Top 10? That wouldn't be rite, would it? Hehe I'll just let myself out. All seriousness, I've heard about this game, maybe I should look into it. Hopefully it isn't filled with Microtransactions considering it is F2P.

The super fancy skins are probably the biggest grind, but most of the other ones are not too bad to obtain.

Oh huh. Looks a bit like Spiral Knights doesn't it? I have never heard of this game until now
Also it has the whole "Free rotation of heroes, purchasable heroes, and a get-all-heroes-forever edition" thing going on.
Not gonna lie, I like how most F2P games have been doing that lately. It's kinda weird actually how people think it's a bad thing when it's not any different than just buying the game outright. v:v:v [editline]18th November 2017[/editline]
Oh huh. We actually just set up a discord for FP battleriters, so if you're interested in learning or playing with other people jump in https://discord.gg/9xWqUJ9
Won a 2v2 tournament with with my friend before it went F2P. I was a HUGE fan of Bloodline Champions (the original game this is reworked on) and I still think this is one of the more balanced approaches to arena combat. It's one of those games that gets your heart pumping every single match when you get really deep into the tech and mechanics. Good to see it's doing well now. My only real gripe with the game is that I wish it were slightly faster paced. They buffed the move speed across the board a while back but its still nowhere near as fast paced as BLC was. Go look up footage of BLC tournaments and see how much faster it looks. They also removed backstabbing which I sorta liked but they had a pretty decent reason for removing it. No idea why people would prefer League of Legends or anything like that over this game. It deserves so much more.
Oh huh. Looks a bit like Spiral Knights doesn't it? I have never heard of this game until now
The arena aesthetics also kinda gives me some spiral knights vibes, will definitely check this out.
I refunded it when I played it as it wasn't my cup of tea, but it's a really well done game.
...you refunded a free game? How?
...you refunded a free game? How?
Game has been in early access for about a year now for $30. Only recently it went F2P.
Game is great gameplay wise, though it does tend towards being a onesided stomp a lot of the time. Still, those close matches where you have two good teams are some of the best experiences you can have in a game like this. I also didn't know a F2P game could be this generous. You get so much shit from just playing the game i.e every hero has a level outside of the main game that rewards you with extra stuff per level achieved. In just 10hs I got enough to buy 3 heroes ontop of the other 3 I already got for free and I also got dropped 3 legendary cosmetics from the free boxes.
I played it, didn't like it, but then again I spent less than an hour in it, and these games take a bit more time than that to get into. The only thing I can say is that on a first impression, the skillsets feel a bit overdesigned
It's fun and fast paced combat for people dont want to commit to being miserable for 30+ minutes in dota
It's actually a pretty fun game. Fast-paced, you get a decent amount of rewards by doing daily quests and just playing, and heroes feel unique. One of its biggest problems right now, in my opinion, is that stuns are way too powerful and there's some pretty nasty inbalance between certain heroes. One hero in particular, whose name eludes me but is basically a giant, evil tree, is awful to play against. He has some of the highest base health in the game, has really high base damage, can heal himself and allies, can put up a shield, has tons of ways to dodge damage outright, and can stunlock. He can literally do the same thing as every other hero combined, and can even do it better than a lot of them. If you have this hero unlocked, there is absolutely no reason not to play him, as you're almost guaranteed to win every single game with him just because of how powerful he is. The problem with stuns is simply that there's no diminishing returns. I was once stunned for a full 6 seconds, which is a lot in any game. And stun abilities tend to also have a relatively short cooldown. So in that case, it's at least a relatively easy fix, if they'll acknowledge it.
Also it has the whole "Free rotation of heroes, purchasable heroes, and a get-all-heroes-forever edition" thing going on.
How long does it take to get everything?
How long does it take to get everything?
Couldn't tell you, I bought into the early access so I haven't had to unlock anyone. Haven't heard any outrage about it, though.
How long does it take to get everything?
If you mean heroes, probably a fair amount of time. However, like others and myself have pointed out, the game is pretty generous with handing out rewards. After ~7 hours of gameplay, I can afford either 3 low-cost heroes, or a single medium-cost one. Cosmetics would probably take longer, but again, they're pretty generous. Through the lootboxes, you can get anywhere between 75-1k tokens (tokens are used to pay for cosmetics).
Glad battlerite was able to get more coverage compared to bloodline champions. I guess something about the exploding popularity of DOTA 2 and League made these moba styled battle arenas more on people's radar.
Really great game. Take some time and get invested, I spent about an hour with it and I was pretty enthralled. I've had some really great matches in this and the community so far is pretty good

I'd love to see that in Battlerite some day.
