Seth Nolan Mcdonagh was sentenced at Southwark crown court to 240 hours of community service for the attack. Mcdonagh had already pleaded guilty to five charges but details could not be reported until today's sentencing hearing by which time he had turned 18. The attack on Spamhaus - which tracks sources of junk mail messages, to help network administrators and law enforcement to block spam senders - began on 15 March 2013 and drew world-wide attention.

Evidence presented in court revealed that Mcdonagh's criminal activity started when he was 13. Ben Cooper, defending Mcdonagh, said his client had suffered from a severe mental illness at the time of the attack and had withdrawn from school, the wider world and even his own family.

Seth Nolan-Mcdonagh, of Stockwell, south-west London, pleaded guilty in December to blasting Spamhaus off the internet as well as admitting charges of money laundering and the possession of 924 indecent images of children.
Damn, that sounds really shitty for him.
Money laundering and kiddy images.
If only he was older he'd get more than just community service, wonder if this puts him on the sex offenders register.

Honestly I think it will, he's clearly disturbed and a possible threat.

I'd think being convicted of possessing almost 1,000 images of child pornography and flat-out money laundering would warrant a little more than a few weeks of community service.

Yeah he deserves a harsher sentence for that.
What an incompetent judge. He should have had at least some jail time, even if just a little bit. Or lots more [del]community service[/del] slavery than just the 240 hours given. That equates to about only 10 days of it.
you can call for harsher sentences but his life is fucked from here on out anyway
just being outed for having those images through the legal system basically means hel never land a decent job ever
Deservedly so, he has cost servers hosts thousands and that isn't even the worst of his crimes
So, let me get this straight.
He has 924 child porn pics, he ddosed spamhaus, and he was money laundering + doxing and other ddoses, and that only gets him 240 hours of comunity service?
That's fucked up right there.
Oh and he has over 1,000 credit card numbers, wow.
Being in possession of child pornography is a little different (not necessarily in the eyes of the law, but perhaps in the eyes of a judge) since he was also a minor at the time. Remember, it's still child pornography even if the person is 17 years and 364 days old.
Unless he had images of people younger than himself, in which case it's pretty undeniably fucked up.
[editline]. [/editline]
Oh wait he had almost a thousand images, sheesh. I thought maybe he had just gotten a few from female friends. Yeah that's pretty fucked up.
Damn... It's good he's got justice but I still kinda feel bad for him.
I think he is extremely lucky that he got away with just 240 hours community service if you consider the scope of his crimes, even with his mental illness and remorse.

Don't.
He's honestly a terrible person.
Didn't he DDOS Facepunch too?

He is I'm not denying that, but it is sad to see anyone do this regardless.

He only got 240 hours of community service, but then again his life is ruined now.

Yes it is a very small sentence considering what he did. Look at this pic i found of him.

Surprised this dude was able to do so much and yet get punished so little

Why take this to tabloid levels? His look is of no concern to anyone.

oh god
Yeah.
Wasn't it because a global variable or some shit was found in his code which meant all of his hacks were fucked.
I thought his name was one of the few censored words on the site. I guess now we can post SethHack without fear of the site going down for a few hours

He looks very disturbed.
He looks very disturbed.
he looks like a kid?
I hope he get's some help
But still as I've said many times before, You must be responsible for your actions regardless.
The judge did not impose a custodial sentence saying Mcdonagh's rehabilitation since his arrest was "remarkable" and that he had shown "complete and genuine remorse".
He said there was virtually no risk of further harm or re-offending.
An important bit from the article on why he didn't get a harsher punishment. I think it's fine as long as he doesn't re-offend.
funny how kids think this is seth from SethHack

Care to elaborate?
He looks very disturbed.
I'm very curious what about this totally normal, uncompromising picture makes you think "disturbed"
oh god
And also what this is even supposed to imply
Kid sounds very troubled psychologically; it's good to see that

He could actually be pretty useful in the IT world if he gets the help he needs, I think, and hopefully such a lenient sentence will only help towards that.
