I will try to update the post once an article exists.
Stewart Wieck has passed away.
Back when I wrote some of the Vampire: The Masquerade material, we had opportunity to chatter back and forth a bit. While our interactions were brief, his influence on gaming and collaborative storytelling had a tremendous influence on me.
A co-founder of White Wolf Publishing, Stewart conceived the rich, compelling mythology behind the World of Darkness. But -- thing that had the deepest resonance with me was Mage: The Ascension -- a powerful game about comics forces and humanity's role in the universe. I have never been particularly spiritual or religious, but Stewart helped me believe in magic. The insight he brought to Mage -- and to all of his books really -- broadened my perspective on the universe.
Stewart's contributions to gaming are profound -- and he will be missed.
EDIT:
An official post by a White Wolf CM confirming his death:
Stew co-created White Wolf Magazine with his brother Steve, and then was co-owner of White Wolf Publishing (with Mark Rein-Hagen). He created Mage: The Ascension and Scarred Lands.
After leaving White Wolf, he founded Nocturnal Media, and among other projects, has been resurrecting older games like Talislanta, and Pendragon, and had acquired West End Games.
Stew had partnered with Onyx Path Publishing to co-own the Scarred Lands setting in order to bring it back for a new generation. OPP and Nocturnal's booths were to be adjacent at Gen Con this year.
Stew Wieck passed away June 22nd.
