Corey Gaspur, designer on the Mass Effect trilogy and most recently Anthem, has passed away. Gaspur was working as lead designer on BioWare's next game, Anthem, before his passing. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/08/01/anthems-lead-designer-corey-gaspur-has-passed-away
Jesus, what happened to him?
Oh shit. Now that is unexpected.
There is something very sad in the fact that he won't see the game fully finished and released.
Damn, that's shit, well I mean here's hoping Anthem still turns out alright, although something tells me this will hit it pretty badly.
This makes me curious if we'll see a defined shift in the quality of the story partway through the game.
This makes me curious if we'll see a defined shift in the quality of the story partway through the game.
No designer worth their scrap would change the vision of the original halfway through development, especially not under these circumstances. Plus, this is BioWare we're talking about. They have a good track record. Besides, you can bet they already have art-bibles and design-bibles up the wazoo to follow already.
Makes me wonder though actually, if this event will make them work even harder to make sure the game is better on release, don't want the guy's last game to be a shit show basically.
Seeing as he and Eric Fagnan basically saved ME3 from mediocrity he had nothing left to prove.
:dogwow:
Andromeda doesn't count :vs:
Andromeda doesn't count :vs:
i'd say that their track record is more "i'll give their games a look but i'm sure as fuck not buying one until it's been extensively played through by other people" than "good"

It was just the story that was uh, yeah, and ME3 was fine after they fixed the ending. As for Andromeda, yeah that was just shit.
dragon age 2 and inquisition were also terrible
What did he do?
He and Eric were responsible for combat theory and MP.
Being fair the actual gameplay of sonic chronicles was pretty solid.
Entirely consisting of the stylus touch screen input gimmick which isn't engaging in the slightest, with the game itself being filled with fake difficulty? Yeah, no thanks. Also: the writing is awful and everything is pointing towards the in-game music being plagiarized from fan-made MIDI's.
Saved ME3 from mediocrity...:speechless:
No shit, I meant what did he actually do that saved it from mediocrity.

I agree entirely on the writing though, and if true stealing music is a really shitty thing to do
dragon age 2 and inquisition were also terrible
I thought 2 was fine as a game all things considered, its just it was a follow up to a very fantastic CRPG and failed to live up to the amount of depth that game had. Inquisition is fucking hot garbage tho, fuck that game, waste of 60 dollars.

The game is also buggy as all hell. The MP is fantastic, shame even Andromeda couldn't get that right
and ME3 was fine after they fixed the ending.
ME3 has more issues than just the ending. Everyone always seems to complain about the ending, but frankly, I'm concerned with everything that kept me from reaching it. I've still got a *new* ME1/2 character sitting around on my PC ready to go on ME3, but I'd rather just play either of the first two instead.
Andromeda doesn't count :vs:
ME3's writing wasn't that much better. For that matter, ME2 started a lot of the writing problems that sabotaged the series and inescapably led to ME3's letdown of an ending. KOTOR and ME1 were fantastic games, but I think Bioware's writing has been on a downward slope for a long time. Things like Andromeda are just very visible examples of a longer-running trend.
You've never played KOTOR BUB And ME2 is the best written game in the series w h a t
ME2 is kind of a bad sequel from a story point of view If you go directly from ME1 to ME2 a lot of the character and lore changes that happen end up feeling contrived, like they just really wanted the story to be one way and came up with a reason for it to actually be that way afterwards. Like how you can't be disappointed in Garrus for going full vigilante after you die even if you spent literally the entirety of ME1 telling him to stay in C-sec and work within the rules, or the whole weird thermal clips thing, or how the Council abruptly decides that Reapers are a myth because it's politically convenient when they have a myriad of hard evidence and seemed open to the idea at the end of ME1. Or how Shepard has literally no option but working with Cerberus after seeing them do all those torturous experiments in ME1 because he wants to save a bunch of colonists which ME3 considered wastes a shitload of time and doesn't really accomplish much aside from establishing side characters who come back to do important things in the sequel. I enjoyed playing ME2 a lot, the game has good characters and pretty fun, snappy gameplay; but ME1's worldbuilding is fucking incredible even 10 years later and IMO the story is a mite more cohesive.

They start a project of one or multiple planned installments and literally disembowel it in the final act... Evert goddamn time.
