The headset plugs into an almost squid-shaped splitter, which routes cables in two directions: one into the Switch’s headphone jack, the other into a cell phone. Nintendo’s proposed voice chat system for the Switch is all localized on an app, not on the console itself. In other words: For Splatoon 2 trash talking, you’ll have to have your cell phone handy.
God I hate when games ask me to use my cellphone for anything. That was a major downside in GTA V for me. Never used it, but just that it asked me to do it from time to time really made me irrationally angry :v:
If I have to plug my shit into an entirely separate device and use a splitter to get game audio too, what stops me from just using discord instead?
Why didn't they just make the headset wireless?...

nothing really, especially since even if your computer and TV are a distance apart, you can just pick up the switch and play at your computer chair
it's probably why Nintendo is having a large Virtual Console library playable for subscribers given how fucking retarded their setup for the Switch and netplay is
Must suck if you bought the new iphone

There's probably a $50 dongle for that.

My phone takes a $26 dongle to take usb headphones 😆 (and like, 2 other ports)
gta5? the game would tell you when you were near chop that you could use the app to teach him shit or something but other than that theres literally no connectivity aside from things you can already do ingame (or for crews, on the website)
I did say it made me irrationally angry. And it's not really about what I can and can't do with a phone, it's the simple fact that I am already playing a fucking game and then the game asks me to whip out my fucking phone, install some dumb fucking app, and use that shit to do something. Sure, it's optional, but it could have been in the fucking game.
I really like the look of the headphones themselves though
Its gonna suck if you have an iphone 7
Why isn't it just on the Switch... :pudge:

Tony Hawk Underground 2 is my favorite LoZ game.
They'd better call it a splatter.
Who even uses voice chat anymore? Most games nowadays provide ways to communicate without it.
You would think that any sane minded engineer would know better than to daisy chain multiple devices to perform one action.
But here we are, all this for just voice chat!
Here's a better idea for what to do with that phone, that you've daisy chained to your Switch..
1. Pick it up
2. use Facetime / Skype
3. Call up your friends
4. Set up a lobby and play the game
- Now you have the next best thing to Voice Chat! :chem101:
It's actually a ploy to filter out IPhone users
