Yes, this is an upgrade to the Titan X that was nicknamed Titan XP (The P standing for Pascal architecture) by the community to differentiate it from the older Titan Xs and now there's a new one called Titan Xp. This must be the worst naming scheme since Street Fighter 2.

Nvidia fucked up by calling the last titan the titan X, they should have saved it for this generation

That's how it started. The first Titan was released a day after the GTX 750 Ti. It was named "GeForce GTX Titan" after that they released "GeForce GTX Titan Black" which was released on the exact date of the first Titans' release a year later [B]then[/B] they released GTX Titan Z a month later calling it "GeForce GTX Titan Z". Then with the new 900 generation, they decided to not release that many Titan's since it was rather confusing and instead tried to focus on selling a high premium $1000+ ($999 in this ones' case) and saying it had the best performance to lure gamers into buying premium instead of going for the later released Ti version. And low and behold this Titan was called "Geforce GTX Titan X". That was March 17, 2015. The strategy I just mentioned seemed to be case for how Titans' were going to work out from now on as the 980 Ti released in June of the same year. Now we're in the modern era with the 10xx series, so Nvidia has made a new strategy for the Titans and this again happened. This time the new Titan X (2016) was called "NVIDIA TITAN X". We already had a GPU called Titan X prior so the community gave it the name Titan XP with the P referencing the Pascal architecture the new Titan X is based on. So for funsies the new one we got here which is basically based on the ultimate version of the GP102 chip, they decided to name it the exact same way everyone nicknamed the Titan X prior calling it Titan Xp (NVIDIA TITAN Xp) with a small p just to be even more hilarious and spiteful towards those who get triggered by bad naming convolutions and I bet Linus will probably flip in the upcoming review about it and I cannot wait. (Actually I cannot wait to hear from everyone about how stupid this naming scheme has gotten in the PC community) I hope they call the next Titan GPU "Titan XV" Titan 15 or Titan XV? Who knows.

This would be fun to play with CUDA stuff on, though. That's a retarded number of CUDA cores, and with Pascal's FP16 (half-precision floating-point) instruction set I'm betting Pascal architecture and GPUs will become more common in machine learning / neural-network stuff. The lowered precision is fine for that stuff, and Pascal architecture can execute two FP16 instructions per thread per clock cycle :D [editline]edited[/editline] after working with CUDA though I wish OpenCL had become the standard, Nvidia is kinda doing a shit job at maintaining CUDA but I'll be damned if they aren't selling it to anyone who's buying (especially research institutions and academia)
