Not going to lie, I actually really like Martin. His finance and chemistry streams were interesting. Hopefully he can get out in like 5 years since he's apparently been doing really well in prison. Maybe I'll even write him a letter.
The judge acknowledged that he is capable of kind and generous acts. https://twitter.com/EthanHarpNews/status/972180571702153217

YES!
Good. Fuck him.
He would have likely gotten off with far less if he had been less of a dumbass and constantly tried to stir shit amidst the trial.
I remember talking to him on voicechat via discord in the midst of this and he was rather confident he'd get off fairly easy, possibly ending up at a low-sec prison for only a year. Then he doubled down on being an overconfident idiot and this happened.
"But guys hear me out he's actually a really nice guy..."
Arrogance always comes before a fall. Get fucked.
lmao what a fuckin idiot
Speaking of his discord, his "fanbase" if you can call it that are the most fucking annoying breed of toxic dudebros. The discord VC was filled with annoying, loud cunts who were desperately trying to suck up to Martin Shkreli in what seemed like a desperate bid to get close enough to him to rack up some of that money he was making.

Pablo Escobar built hospitals, Al Capone ran soup kitchens and Bin Laden would help the poor.
Evil egomaniacs are capable of good deeds simply to convince themselves they aren't totally evil pieces of shit.
Good riddance!
Heh, I guess he who laughs last, laughs best.
So much for acting so smug.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that he had some idea behind most of his decisions which were actually sound, but his attitude is inexcusable.

lmao, comparing shkreli to escobar and bin laden
He did what almost every other pharmaceutical company has done before him. It's fairly standard practice and it could be argued that Shkreli has actually put an end to it, even if that wasn't his intention.
Not to say he isn't a twat (he basically lied and stole his way to the top) but to put him up there with bin laden is just fucking retarded. If you're gonna be mad at something be mad at the system that allows these price hikes to happen.

He's still looking at that though. Out in 2 years with good behavior.
not exactly a fan of the man but 7 years seems like too much

Federal system is something like up to 50 days off per year of your sentence for excellent behavior. No parole in federal system either.
Federal system doesn't fuck around.

i'm willing to believe he's more complex than the cartoon villain he's made out to be, but not a good person. his manipulation fucked with people's lives, even if he was suppose working towards a noble goal.

7 years is a long time, but people have gotten more for lesser crimes.
"But guys hear me out he's actually a really nice guy..."
I never got that defence of him. "He's just fucking over insurance companies." Yeah, and causing them to raise everyone else's premiums in the process. No matter how you cut it he was being a dick, both in his personality and in his actions.

I wouldn't quite put Shkreli in the same camp as those three even though he's an obnoxious piece of shit. I get your point though.
I wouldn't quite put Shkreli in the same camp as those three even though he's an obnoxious piece of shit.
But the main point wasn't "Shkreli is as bad as Escobar/Al Capone/Bin Laden", the main point was "evil people can do good things as well but that doesn't make them not evil." It's literally spelt out in the second line.
Jesus Christ people stop conflating analogies with one-to-one comparisons. It's tiresome and proves nothing but your own lack of reading comprehension.
Should have gone with the Gizmodo title

One day people on the internet will understand how analogies work. One day.
GrizzlyBear comparing him to people way more evil was the point. If people like that can do some good then its not really a justification for constant shit behavior and actions.

If I had a gun with two bullets, and I was in a room with Escobar, bin Laden, and Shkreli, I would shoot Shkreli twice.

i'd shoot myself tbh

yes I am not claiming he is a saint, but he's not utterly evil. he has helped people, taught, inspired, etc. he just took money from one his companies and used it to invest in a fund that was losing money. luckily that fund did eventually make money and shkreli paid back retrophin, but that's still illegal. and I believe he knows that was wrong.
I think 7 years is a bit harsh - what's the soonest he could get out with good behaviour and stuff? How long do you typically serve on a sentence like this?
Also sure, yeah, it's hard not to at least feel a bit smug about him getting punished for his actions; but the larger problem of pharmaceutical companies overcharging is of course entirely untouched by this. I hope him going to prison won't make people forget that what he did is basically standard practice at this point. Last example I read about: https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/02/price-of-2-in-1-drug-spikes-to-3000-separately-the-two-drugs-cost-36/

he may know that he's done wrong, but going off of what he's been saying i don't think he truly cares or realizes how much he's fucked up, and instead uses the ends to justify the means.
I remember the first thing I heard when I joined his discord about how it's all nonsense or whatever and nothing will come out of it and he was confident about it
This was way long ago, though
lmao

Frankly I don't care either. He of course had to be punished, we have to prosecute crimes. But as far as I'm concerned he defrauded rich people that eventually got 3x their money. fuck 'em, I don't actually care that much.
