A British backpacker was allegedly raped and held for months against her will before being discovered during what police say was a potentially life-saving traffic stop. The 22-year-old was behind the wheel of a vehicle that was pulled over on the Warrego Highway at Mitchell, about 570 kilometres west of Brisbane, on Sunday afternoon. Staff at a service station at Mitchell told the ABC they contacted police after the woman pumped petrol into a car, but drove away without paying. Police said the woman was visibly distressed and had injuries to her face. A 22-year-old man from the Cairns suburb of Manunda was found hiding in a small alcove of the car. He appeared in the Roma Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with multiple counts of rape and strangulation. Detective Inspector Paul Hart said the woman's experience had been horrific and terrifying. "It has taken great courage for the victim to provide the details she has," he said.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-07/rape-strangulation-charges-for-man-found-hiding-car/8330624 Put him in a small cell and throw away the keys. A person like that will never be fit to enter civilised society.

Every time I hear something about rape my blood boils. Being with a rape victim, and seeing first hand the damage it does. It's like walking tight rope above a minefield, because if you do something that could trigger a flash back, it's the most heart wrenching thing to watch the one you love freak out when you try to be intimate with eachother, even though you know it's not your fault, but you feel bad because you can never undo the pain that the monsters caused. I hope this chick can learn to get past this. She's a warrior, she's survived an attack from a abomination, that should've just been a stain on a tissue, and not a "human being"
So he was holding her hostage and making her drive while he hid in the car? [editline]7th March 2017[/editline] Someone told me if I ever get into that situation, find the studiest, safest thing away from other people and floor it straight into it. They said these kind of people rarely wear seatbelts in this situation and while you'll most likely be injured in the process, it won't compare to your captor flying through the windshield and becoming a red smoothie on the pavement

In lots of kidnapping cases the victim just stays with the person even if escape is possible because of fear/conditioning.
Oh of course, intimidation + Stockholm syndrome are very real. I feel awful for the woman, she has a long recovery process
