Quantic Dreams described as a toxic work environment by former staff. David Cage denies allegations.
Three separate French reports published this afternoon level serious allegations of unhealthy studio culture at Quantic Dream, developer of Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and the upcoming PlayStation 4 game Detroit: Become Human.
Quantic Dream leaders David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière are accused of inappropriate behaviour, overworking staff and colluding in - or at least turning a blind eye to - a schoolboy culture involving sexist and racist jokes.
Cage is also accused of a lack of consideration for female colleagues, and of making insistent dirty jokes, smutty remarks in the presence of his wife, and inappropriate remarks about actresses in his games.
David Cage had a response to the allegations
Cage said the allegations were "ridiculous, absurd and grotesque".
"You want to talk about homophobia?" he said. "I work with Ellen Page, who fights for LGBT rights. You want to talk about racism? I work with Jesse Williams, who fights for civil rights in the USA... Judge me by my work."
His excuse is basically:
"I have black friends, I can't be racist."
Yet he tries to cover up for stuff that wasn't really the main point of the reports.
I'm surprised he didn't tell his female workers to shower in front of him, considering the number of shower scenes in his games
"You want to talk about homophobia?" he said. "I work with Ellen Page, who fights for LGBT rights. You want to talk about racism? I work with Jesse Williams, who fights for civil rights in the USA... Judge me by my work."
That statement is like a version of "I have black friends, but...<outlandishly offensive comment against black people>" or "Hey, I love women, but <outrageously sexist comment>". Except it goes a step further and uses actual people as props to absolve yourself and act as if it's a defense.
Judge me by my work.
Don't all his games have female protagonists with shower scenes and constantly always on the verge of being raped?
lmao his response is literally UM I HAVE GAY FRIENDS AND BLACK FRIENDS SO I CANT BE RACIST OR HOMOPHOBIC?
TBH i believe it. something has always seemed off about david cage to me
Don't all his games have female protagonists with shower scenes and constantly always on the verge of being raped?
for those that don't know
there's a shower scene with a character based on ellen page, nothing sexual or anything but she is naked
apparently, they had her fully modeled and everything, this was found by hacking the camera during that section
even though she never approved of it and even almost explored legal action over it
you know david cage approved it

Definitely. His response has the ferocity of a Caged animal.
David Cage has always seemed like a proto rapist to me.
Entirely believable.
The dude thinks making adventure games with wacky, badly written plots/characters will help make the industry more 'mature' and very blatantly will not listen to any of the constructive criticism he's received over the years.
Pair his comments here and in the past along with the actual content of his games and it paints the picture of a self-absorbed ass that obviously has no one looking over his shoulder despite desperately needing it.

Again I have to keep bringing this up. There are unused files in Beyond: Two Souls where Ellen Page's character is brutally raped, screaming for her sidekick to save her. This comes despite the fact that her sidekick is literally an inter dimensional being/ghost/thing that has been protecting the character her entire life, but just pointlessly watches in this cut segment.
It lasts for a couple minutes and is honestly some of the most chilling shit because it sounds too real for its own good. I'm not one to say that you can't have such a scene in one's work because, hey, it happens. But jesus christ it's really clear that this was just something for Cage to get off on

And, because you forgot it, here's a source for it

I'm pretty sure that scene would have only played out if the player insisted on not interfering. Hell you calling the scene chilling is probably a compliment towards Cage because that was obviously the intention for it.
What makes it fucked up is that during that instance, Ellen Page's character is underage.

Doesn't that scene also have her ghost buddy just sitting with his thumb up his ass?
Considering the reveal towards the end[sp]that the ghost is her stillborn twin brother,[/sp]it only makes the scene worse.
they sure do look happy

Reminder that Tyler in Indigo Prophecy always had funky music playing in his head.

it's more of a compliment towards Ellen Page really, the actual scene would have no doubt been borderline pornographic nonsense
Every scene that the female deuteragonist of Heavy Rain has her sexually harassed or assaulted, it’s not really surprising that Cage is a scumbag
how does this guy keep getting funding to make games lmao

and by games I mean rape fantasies

You know you got to
HAAAAAAAANG IT UP!
You guys joke but I almost actually expected secret cameras in an employee bathroom.
"I always thought it was odd that we had showers installed at work..."
The first line in Heavy Rain spoken by the only black character is "Hey cracka whatchu doin in there"
It's hard to imagine that we live in a universe where someone like David Cage exists.
The first line in Heavy Rain spoken by the only black character is "Hey cracka whatchu doin in there"
and his only purpose in the plot is to steal cars and kill cops
and also as Nahman Jaydehn you get the option to hold him at gunpoint and cite justifiable homicide while he's literally on his knees with his hands up
oh yeah and he looks like this

Sony is quintupling down on the European market, which in the past had focused on sports games and third person action games. That is why God of War is being taken in a new direction, and why David Cage got to make Detroit.
Necessary reminder that there is a scene in Heavy Rain where a dude drugs the female lead and drags her down to his creepy rape dungeon and tries to shove a drill up her vagina.
This scene serves literally no purpose and if you just don't drink the drugged water it gets skipped and the dude acts like a completely normal person and nothing about the game changes.
The only reason it's there because David Cage really wanted it in the game.

actually if you fuck around in the house too long he'll knock her out from behind and drag her off to the basement
Also worth mentioning:
Beyond Two Souls only exists because David Cage got the sudden urge to gather a collection of pictures of Ellen Page from age 8 to the present.
A funeral, a single idea and pictures of Ellen Page. “This,” says David Cage, “is how everything started with Beyond: Two Souls”.
...
“When you’ve worked with David Bowie,” he says, “you’re no longer afraid of anyone.”
But David Cage is afraid. He’s afraid because he has spent the last 12 months looking at pictures of Ellen Page. In his studio a 2000 page script lies scattered with images of Ellen from the age of eight through to adulthood.
Literally every game he has is filled with shit that's racist, sexist, or just creepy, but people don't pay it any mind because they buy in to the pretentiousness that surrounds every fucking game he makes and believe it's the most artsy shit ever.
Every single Cage game since Indigo Prophecy has pointless sex scenes, pointless shower scenes, racist shit towards black people/native american stereotypes, rape scenes, just a fucking conga line of creepiness. The Ellen Page cut rape scene neglects to mention the fact that that would only be the 1 successful attempt of what would be like 3 or 4 ATTEMPTED rapes over the course of that fucking game that didn't get cut. On top of 2 or 3 shower scenes that don't need to exist.
And if you want to try to defend it by saying "It's not about sex appeal it's about showing people's real life" then I would remind you that he put the female protagonist of Indigo Prophecy in fucking Playboy Magazine
David Cage isn't just a fucking hack but he's a legitimate creep and I can't believe people have fallen for his shit enough for him to be this successful and he's won like the highest honors a French person can achieve in their country.
