• iPhone 8 launch: Sydney launch has record poor crowds
DIEHARD Aussie Apple fan Mazen Kourouche camped outside the company’s Sydney George street store for 10 days to be the first person to purchase the iPhone 8. Technically he wanted the tenth anniversary edition iPhone X, but was let down when he learnt after queuing for more than 48 hours Apple would not start shipping the device until November 3. Still, the self-proclaimed Apple fanatic stuck it out for more than 240 hours. “[The nights were definitely the worst] because there are a lot of people walking past, a lot of people out of it, the drilling and the construction work, but it’s all part of the experience,” he told news.com.au. “My mum thinks I am crazy, but she supports me through all of it.” While he admits he will return for the iPhone X when it’s released in November, Mr Kourouche said he was still happy to have a new Apple product in his hands. “I got the gold and the black iPhone 8 Plus and I am excited to see what they look like.” Since the very first iPhone was released 10 years ago, the company has become well known for extravagant events on launch days. Staff line every floor of the Apple Store, all dressed in the same blue T-shirt, screaming and applauding. Hordes of Apple fanboys wait in large queues with literally hundreds of people, helping create a general buzz that could not be matched by rival companies. In the early days, it wasn’t uncommon for large groups of people to sleep overnight in front of the store to secure a better position in the line. And while this year still saw the same amount of Apple staff wearing blue shirts, screaming and applauding the customers, the vibe was just not the same as it had been years prior.
http://www.news.com.au/technology/gadgets/mobile-phones/does-the-less-than-popular-iphone-8-launch-prove-apples-biggest-tradition-is-dead/news-story/e762c9bde976633c840e629a325b1061 In all fairness, the iPhone 8 is not exciting. It's a really minor update to the iPhone 7 (which is why a lot of critics dub it the iPhone 7s) and diehard fans are waiting for the X, not the 8.
I can't wait for apple products to do a 1990s and die off again.

Years of High School.
This is all part of their really really stupid plans to get us to start paying 500-700 for phones. Basically, by making the $200-400 dollar phone boring, and the $700 phone interesting and appealing, you make people spending a lot for their phone the norm. Which obviously won't happen, cause people wont spend that much on a phone. Clearly.
I'm gonna defend Apple here real quick and say that all their products are built to withstand the test of time. The iPhone 3gs was released in 2009 and stopped receiving updates in 2012. Just about all devices (phones mainly) recieve 4 years worth of updates and support. Samsung, Google, LG etc do not provide this much amount of support though in Android's defence, you can install custom ROM's which extend the longevity. Also Apple has outstanding customer care and repair services. The geniuses may be annoying but they get shit done.
I'm gonna say that part of this is the Apple fanatics wanting the iPhone X. I guess we'll know when that thing launches.

While my friend has a HTC old as balls working just fine. About their repair services check up on Louis Rossmann on YouTube and see what he has to say about their repair service.
I can't wait for apple products to do a 1990s and die off again.
they're stagnating and going to create increasingly stupid ideas that leak into other products and fuck the industry up through a lack of being innovative Companies trying to emulate them will do so in the dumbest ways because all in all, Apple without Steve Jobs isn't Apple.
I mean the iphone x is attractive to consumers, but not 1k+ attractive. How much is it gonna cost in AUD anyway?
It's like $1800 AU or something batshit crazy
It's not just the bad launch, dumb design and all the backwards hardware decisions as of late. It's a mess on the software front. Fucking iOS10/11 broke so much UIKit, atomic/thread-safe and other stuff, the new iPhones are most likely going to launch with a massive library of apps that just won't work, at least for the first few weeks. We loaded up an iOS9 project this week to get it ready for the new devices. This project ran like a dream on iOS9, no warnings whatsoever in the code, completely clean. Load it up for iOS10 and one of our developers made an audible whimper from the number of "deprecation warnings". Apparently the behaviour on iOS9 is so wildly different that it may be required to launch a separate "iOS10/11+" version of the app. Which isn't allowed, so we have to call it "ourApp 2". It's going to be a shit-show.

I wasn't aware it stopped working on other devices, but since the app is tied into the OS it would stop working eventually. That doesn't mean to say you can't download another tracking app, though, so it's not really a good argument
How can anything withstand the test of time when they use planned obsolescence to force you to upgrade lol.
My old iPhone 5s just updated to iOS 11 and runs buttery smooth. Is it that Apple hasn't fucked iOS for it or the fact it's running on 64bit architecture?
For some reason they're hell bent on making expensive computers you have to throw away the next year. In fact, the latest macOS update which comes out next week, supports these models:
MacBook Pro – 2010 or later models MacBook – Late 2009 or later models MacBook Air – 2010 or later models iMac – Late 2009 or later models Mac Mini – 2010 or later models Mac Pro – 2010 or later models
Do you mean the degrading screens on the Laptops and some phone models or do you mean the glued in batteries? The all around shitty anti-consumer tactics when it comes to repairs?
There are indeed shitty anti-consumer tactics when it comes to repairs/upgradability, however they are built to last (excluding situations where the battery is not easily replaceable). I've not heard of/seen Apple product screens degrading
Many people own Macs for 5+ years. Apple doesn't make the old ones non-functional. In fact, the latest macOS update which comes out next week, supports these models:
They don't, but they make them harder to repair on each new model, so you have to buy a new one and Windows 10 can be installed on even older hardware, it'll just be really slow. I mean saying you can't run the lasted OSX on older hardware is just them getting you to buy a new computer, "is your iMac slow? Get a new one". Lastely, why are they selling the Mac Pro bin cylinder for so much when it's using CPUs that are 2 generations old, it's X79 FFS?, you can't get anything with decent hardware on the mac platform, why bother with it?. It's just a brand name PC running a version of BSD with better software compatibility.
I agree about the anti-consumer tactics when it comes to repairs, albeit I don't think Apple always expects you to go buy the new model when your Mac breaks. You can send it to Apple for repair, which will probably be way over-priced, but not as expensive as buying a new Mac. Not that this justifies sending it to Apple for repair, I'd rather be able to just replace a battery myself quick cheap and simple. And I guess Apple would support as far back as Windows 10 does, but since they've well-tested their own OS on their own computers, they probably choose to cut it off at the point where it's too slow
Jesus Christ. Do you have contracts like in the United States where you get the next iPhone for free? So far most people who keep up to date with the latest models seem to be these kinds of folks, haha.
A contract with a phone is more expensive and I personally would never get one due to the fact that you will probably pay 150% or more of the phones cost, but people do get them. In saying that, I know a lot of people who buy outright, we do have a lot more of a disposable income than a lot of places. On full time minimum wage, if I was renting with some friends and not living frugally, I would still have $1500/month left over after rent, bills and food.

My mother has a Galaxy S2 and has been using it since 2011. It works just fine. Apple's products are not special. And in terms of customer care and repair services I haven't seen better than Microsoft's phone division. Had a $280 Lumia 925 that I accidentally broke (really was my fault though) and sent in. Unfortunately they couldn't repair it and offered to sent me a free $600 Lumia 950 instead.

Basically, if you keep your phone for a year, you can upgrade your phone for a $99 fee, hand back your old phone in exchange for a new phone + plan
Jesus Christ. Do you have contracts like in the United States where you get the next iPhone for free? So far most people who keep up to date with the latest models seem to be these kinds of folks, haha.
It's not for free.

I bought a lot of these for cheap from a college a few years ago and you wouldn't believe how many of them were dead due to this or about to die. All because Apple decided to cheap out and buy knock off cheap Taiwanese capacitors instead of known good brands. Little did they know these cheap Taiwanese brands were the reason for the capacitor plague of 1999-2007. They probably saved less then a dollar on the whole cost of the imac as capacitors are very cheap.

I know I said "stand the test of time" not "they last forever"
The brand new iMac has a socketed CPU and SODIMM RAM, surprisingly. It's fucking hard to open, but that's one of the few that CAN be upgraded.
